I don’t really talk about my dad often, but certain things in life make you think differently.

This is one of those things for me.

A high income doesn’t automatically mean you’re properly protected.

If your household relies on two incomes, or one person earns the majority of the household income, what happens if a serious illness takes one of those incomes away?

Workplace coverage is a great place to start (if your workplace even offers it). But is it enough?

As a general starting point, I often look at 1–2x annual income in Critical Illness Insurance. Cancer, a heart attack or stroke can mean significant time away from work.

The goal is to protect your income, your savings, and give yourself time to focus on a potentially long road to recovery.

Not sure how much Critical Illness coverage makes sense for you? Let’s talk.

A serious illness doesn’t stop the bills from coming in.

Your mortgage, groceries, childcare and everyday expenses continue, even if your income doesn’t. And if your spouse needs to take time away from work to help you recover, that’s potentially two incomes being affected.

Without money coming in, families may be forced to take on debt or dip into savings and retirement investments they’ve spent years building.

That’s where Critical Illness Insurance can help.

If you’re diagnosed with a covered condition, it provides a lump-sum payment that you can use where you need it most.

And it may cost less than you think.

For example, $100,000 of Term 10 Critical Illness Insurance for a 35-year-old male non-smoker is approximately $28.81/month.

Protect your income. Protect your savings. Give yourself time to recover.

My parents gave me an incredible gift by saving for my education, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Today, Michele and I are trying to do the same for Felix.

Not because we know what he’ll become.

Because we want him to have options.

Our goal is to contribute enough each year to receive the full $7,200 lifetime government grant.

If you’re thinking about opening an RESP for your child or grandchild, let’s start a conversation.

A portfolio review isn’t just for retirement.

As your life changes, it’s worth making sure your investment portfolio still aligns with your financial goals and timeline.

If it’s been a while since your last review, let’s start with a conversation.

One change = an easier financial life. 👇

Bringing your insurance, employee benefits, and wealth management together under one point of contact can make your financial life feel a whole lot less complicated.

Not only can it save you time and reduce stress, it also means you don’t have to coordinate multiple conversations to keep your financial picture aligned.

My approach is to look at the bigger picture, helping make sure every financial decision is working toward the same goal.

If having one point of contact sounds like a better fit, I’d be happy to chat.

After almost 10 years in wealth management, there are a few things I refuse to do with my money:

Let extra cash sit in an account doing nothing - If my money doesn’t have a short term purpose, I want it invested, not slowly losing value to inflation.

Treat a raise like it’s money to blow on a new truck or toy - Every raise is a chance to build wealth, not just increase spending.

Wait for a “better time” to invest - I’ve learned that waiting and trying to time the market usually turns into waiting even longer.

Keep my insurance, investments, and business decisions separate from each other - The more connected everything is, the easier financial decisions become.

Invest conservatively like retirement is around the corner when I still have 30 working years ahead of me - Time is one of the biggest advantages I have. I want to make the most of it.

Myketa Life & Wealth Inc. is built for busy business owners and high earners in the resource sector who want to simplify their financial lives.

What does protecting your family’s future actually look like in practice?

A very small human named Felix completely changed how I see this work.

This is the start of something I’ve been wanting to share for a while: the real decisions we’ve made as a family for Felix’s future, and why we’ve made them.

I hope sharing them helps others think about their own.

So we’re very clear, LeBron is my GOAT. I don’t care what the haters say. I just panicked under the pressure of the bright camera lights and said MJ 😂

A lot of people do the same thing when it comes to protecting their income. They panic, avoid the conversation, and hope everything works out.

Whether it’s through your employee benefits or individual life insurance, disability insurance, or critical illness insurance, we’re making it a little easier to talk about.

0 for 5? Let’s chat.

Day 90 isn’t when breaks in your business happen👇 It’s what happened in the 60 days before it.

You start out optimistic and that you’ll return to work shortly. Your team has it handled. Savings cover this period.

Savings start thinning out and clients start asking questions. You have no return to work date yet. The reality of a slow slide toward 90+ days off work is setting in.

Not enough business owners plan for that slow slide toward 90+ days of disrupted income. That’s what I help fix.
