Care-First represents one of the biggest changes to Alberta auto insurance in decades.

Starting January 1, 2027, the new system will focus on helping eligible Albertans recover after an automobile accident by providing access to medical treatment, rehabilitation, income replacement, permanent impairment benefits, and additional support for those with serious injuries.

One of the most significant changes is how injury claims will be handled. Rather than resolving many injury claims through litigation, the Care-First model is designed to deliver benefits and treatment directly through the insurance system. While the right to sue for injuries will be limited in most situations, certain exceptions will remain.

What does that mean for drivers? What benefits will be available? How will claims work under the new system?

We'll be answering those questions and more throughout this series, breaking down the changes in clear, easy-to-understand terms.

Farming is hard work, and we know that the days can be long, busy and unpredictable. Beginning January 1, 2027, Alberta's auto insurance system is changing. The new Care-First model places a greater focus on helping people recover after an automobile accident through access to treatment, rehabilitation, and financial support.

With any major change comes a lot of questions, and we're here to help answer them.

❤️ Giving Back to the Sylvan Lake Community

Last week, we were proud to celebrate a very special community partnership! Intact Insurance has generously donated $1,000 to Sylvan Lake Community Partners in support of the Galley Soup Kitchen as part of their Community Impact Partnership Program.

This organization holds a very special place in our manager Lisa’s heart. Her connection goes back many years. Her mother has served as the organization’s Executive Director for the past 15 years, and Lisa has had the privilege of volunteering at various events over the years. She has seen firsthand the incredible impact this organization has on the Sylvan Lake community. The need for programs like the Galley Soup Kitchen is significant. In the past year alone, Sylvan Lake Community Partners has served 4,407 clients accessing fresh food. That need inspired the launch of the Galley Soup Kitchen on March 27, providing one hot meal each week to individuals living in vehicles or on the street, with plans to expand as the need continues to grow.

We’re incredibly grateful to Intact Insurance for helping support this important initiative, and proud to play a small part in helping the Galley Soup Kitchen continue its work.

Thank you to Sylvan Lake Community Partners for everything you do for our community, and to Intact Insurance for helping us give back! 💙
