Lender Lens: Equitable Bank.

Jackson from EQ walked our brokers through the alt side this week, and a few things actually moved.

The extended ratio program was business for self only at 60. It now takes salaried borrowers at 55, with the FICO floor down from 680 to 640. They also showed Shared Income View, which puts the borrower's calculated income next to what the lender sees before it becomes a problem.

The reverse mortgage promo runs to the end of the month.

Lender Lens: Questbank.

Community Trust officially became Questbank in June 2026, and it came with real product and pricing changes rather than just a new logo. Julie, their new BDM for the GVA, Lower Mainland and parts of BC, took our brokers through it.

The biggest shift is pricing. Rates now come off a FICO average weighted by income across every working applicant, not just the main earner, so a strong second applicant genuinely moves the rate. Premiums have been cut to six categories and capped at 50 bps for borrowers at 740 and up.

Worth knowing on the underwriting side: co signed debt can come out of TDS with six months of statements showing someone else pays it, the High Equity program takes 60/60 ratios at zero premium, and business for self borrowers need two years in a similar field rather than two years self employed.

Every week we bring a lender into the room and ask the questions that decide whether a file funds.

This week it was Bing, the new BDM for BC and Alberta at MCAN Financial.

Three things worth knowing: the summer promo runs to the end of September, the alternative income list is wider than most brokers use it, and SCORE lines up broker and client incentives in a way you rarely see.

He was also straight with us that MCAN is not a quick close lender. That kind of candour is worth more to a broker than a rate sheet.
