Good news for the variable rate borrowers as Bank of Canada opted to hold its benchmark interest rate steady at 5 percent as the economy is showing more and more signs of cooling. In its accompanying statement, the bank said it made the decision due to “recent evidence that excess demand in the economy is easing, and given the lagged effects of monetary policy.”
