Long one today... I'm super passionate about this.
People think critical illness coverage is something you worry about when you're older. I personally can confirm that it doesn't.
In Canada, serious illnesses are affecting younger people more than most realize. Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death for Canadians under 40, over 300,000 Canadians are currently living with MS with most diagnosed between ages 20-49. More than 11 million Canadians live with diabetes, Kidney disease affects approximately 1 in 10 Canadians and benign brain tumours are more common than people realize and can still lead to surgery, time off work, and long recoveries.
These illnesses don’t check your age before they show up and I know this because at 30 years old, I was diagnosed with cancer.
What should’ve only been a health battle quickly became a financial reality too. I had to have a hysterectomy and missed 8 weeks of work. Thankfully mine was caught early, but even that short amount of time off set me back financially.
Our generation is carrying bigger mortgages, higher grocery bills, more debt, more monthly payments, and in many cases less savings than previous generations had. Most families can’t afford to suddenly lose income while also dealing with travel, treatments, recovery, childcare, or extra medical expenses.
That’s the purpose of Critical Illness coverage.
It protect your finances while you focus on recovering. It pays a tax-free lump sum that YOU decide how to use. Mortgage payments, bills, travel for treatment, time off work, extra support at home — whatever your family needs most.
And one of my favourite features? Return of premium options. If you never use the policy, you can get your money back. It's a win-win situation.
Have you ever thought about how your family would manage financially if you were diagnosed with a serious illness tomorrow?
