✨ Team spotlight: Meet Alyson Kent!

Since joining VFG Wealth in 2011, Alyson Kent has grown from assistant to advisor, building a career grounded in mentorship, service, and community. With more than 25 years in the financial industry, Alyson brings both experience and heart to her work with clients.

☕ What’s your go-to coffee order?
A “Canadiano” with a little milk.

📊 What inspired you to build a career in financial planning and wealth management?
After working at various admin roles in the non-profit sector, I joined VFG as Mike’s assistant. Under his mentorship I saw the opportunity to assist people in managing their financial stability, while operating my own business, within a team environment. As a professional financial planner, I see myself as a problem solver and helper. The opportunity to work with clients from diverse backgrounds allows for new challenges and new relationships.

🤝 What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone choosing a financial advisor or planning partner?
To fully benefit from their advice, you need to be able to develop an honest and open relationship with your advisor. Look for someone who understands your unique situation. Your advisor needs to earn your trust, so you should ask them questions to get to know them.

🧭 Many of our clients are preparing for major life transitions, from retirement to selling a business. How do you help clients navigate those changes with confidence?
I ask questions to ensure I have the full picture before recommending any solutions. With more complex situations, I rely on my team for assistance with scenarios I haven’t encountered yet. We have advisors here with a wide range of experience who are available to help when needed.

Professional. Caring. Community.

🥋 When you’re not working, where can we find you?
I volunteer in our community with arts and social justice organizations. But you also might find me in the Dojo where I currently hold the rank of Sankyu (Brown Belt) in karate, and am working toward my Black Belt.

Supporting our communities means supporting the people and causes that matter most.

Recently, our very own Dino Ferrera joined Adam Butter to talk about why VFG Wealth chose to support the Hespeler Hot Wing Challenge, a community fundraiser benefiting The Terry Fox Foundation.

When Dino learned organizers were looking for sponsors, he saw an opportunity to help. Events like these not only raise important funds for cancer research and support programs, but also bring communities together around a shared cause.

For many families, cancer has touched their lives in some way. Supporting initiatives that help fund research and provide hope is something we're proud to be part of.

Of course, the conversation ended with Dino and Adam taking on a 6.6 million Scoville heat unit hot sauce challenge. You'll have to watch the reel to see how that turned out! 🌶️🔥

We often hear the question: "Why work with a financial advisor when robo-advisors and AI tools are readily available?"

Last week, members of the VFG Wealth team had the privilege of attending opening night of Death of a Salesman at the Stratford Festival , which we’re proud to support as this season's Production Sponsor.

It was a memorable evening celebrating one of Canada's premier cultural institutions alongside fellow community leaders, supporters of the arts, and Festival patrons. We even got to unveil our sponsorship plaque featuring a photo of Tom McCamus as W***y Loman in this year’s production.

The production also held special significance for our team. Advisor Tim Ziegler spent many years on stage before beginning his career in financial services, and his father, acclaimed actor and director Joseph Ziegler, was a longtime member of the Stratford Festival company. Joseph also portrayed W***y Loman in a previous production of Death of a Salesman, making this year's production particularly meaningful for the Ziegler family.

At VFG Wealth, we believe thriving communities are built through strong connections, shared experiences, and support for the organizations that bring people together. The Stratford Festival has been doing exactly that for generations, and we're honoured to play a small role in helping sustain its impact.

Innovation is at its best when industry expertise and real-world experience come together.

Last month, Trevor Neeb was invited to participate in a two-day Agent Workshop hosted by iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance), Investia Financial Services and Microsoft at Microsoft’s Toronto Innovation Hub. Trevor was selected for his unique combination of technological expertise and hands-on experience working directly with clients as an advisor.

Working alongside industry leaders and technology specialists, the group collaborated to develop two Microsoft Copilot agents designed to help improve advisor productivity and streamline day-to-day workflows. The goal? Give valuable time back to the approximately 1,800 active advisors across the IA and Investia platform so they can focus more on what matters most: serving their clients.

We're proud to see Trevor contributing to initiatives that help shape the future of advice and demonstrate how technology can enhance, rather than replace, the human side of financial planning.
