If you were suddenly unable to manage your finances or make important personal decisions, who would you trust to step in?

It’s not an easy question, but it’s an important one.

A Power of Attorney allows you to name someone you trust to act on your behalf if circumstances ever prevent you from making important decisions yourself. The authority you give them can cover financial matters, personal care decisions, or both.

It’s also something that can easily be overlooked. Many people have a will in place and assume their estate planning is complete, without considering what would happen if they became incapacitated during their lifetime.

Having the right documents in place can make an already difficult situation much clearer for the people who may be called on to manage your affairs or make decisions on your behalf. A great Sunday morning spent moving for a great cause! 👟💙

Yesterday, members of our team laced up for Stratford’s premier 5K event - and we were proud to sponsor it, too.

Beyond being a fun way to get out, get moving, and enjoy a beautiful route through Stratford, this annual event supports the incredible work of The Local Community Food Centre helping people in our community access good, healthy food and build valuable cooking and gardening skills.

We’re always happy to support initiatives that bring our community together and make a meaningful difference close to home. A big thank you to the organizers, volunteers, fellow sponsors, and everyone who ran, walked, cheered, and helped make this year’s Stratford 5K such a success!

Since joining VFG Wealth in 2023, Samantha Lewis-Davis has brought strong client service experience, organization, and care to our Woodstock office. With a background in executive administration and frontline financial services, she helps keep our team running smoothly while building meaningful relationships with clients.

☕ What’s your go-to coffee (or tea) order?

🧭 What led you to join the financial services industry – and VFG Wealth specifically?

I first entered financial services through a co-op placement at a credit union head office while studying Executive Administration at Fanshawe, which confirmed my interest in the industry. After graduating, I continued in a frontline role at another credit union. I knew I wanted to stay in finance while using my administrative background, and VFG felt like the perfect fit: a local, relationship-driven environment where I could grow my skills and make a meaningful impact.

🩵 What do you enjoy most about your role and the clients you work with?

I enjoy the variety — no two days are the same. I value the opportunity to problem-solve, think critically, and collaborate with people both internally and externally. I also really enjoy building relationships and finding meaningful solutions that make a difference for our clients.

🤝 At VFG, client experience is everything. What does “service that goes beyond expectations” mean to you?

Being proactive and forward-thinking. It’s not just about meeting a client’s needs in the moment; it’s about showing up every day with the mindset of delivering thoughtful, personalized support that truly adds value.

Employee benefits are one of the most meaningful investments organizations make in their people.

But there’s a common challenge many employers encounter: employees don’t always recognize the full value of what’s available to them.

📊 According to the 2025 Benefits Canada Healthcare Survey, just 53% of plan members say they understand their benefits “extremely well” or “very well.” While that’s an improvement from 47% last year, it’s still well below the 65% reported in 2018 when the question was first asked. Another 37% say they understand their plan only “somewhat well.”

These numbers don’t reflect a lack of interest from employees. More often, they reflect the reality that modern benefits programs have become more robust and complex.
