October is Breast Cancer awareness month. My mother had a breast removed at age 65, she is now 86. The cancer was detected at an early stage, demonstrating the benefits of regular examinations.

Having a breast removed is a life-changing event. About 25 years ago, a product called critical illness insurance was introduced to Canada. It pays a lump sum tax free benefit upon diagnosis and survival of a listed event. It can be purchased in a variety of ways.

As an independent agent, I can help clarify if critical illness insurance is something for you to consider and what options would be appropriate for you.

Not a household name to many, but a great company to deal with.

I've been using IA for some of my less perfect clients as they have a very generous build chart and re-insurance agreement.

They also have a simplified life policy that I could put clients into who would not have qualified for Canada Protection Plan or Assumption Life plans.

Having access to the market is why you refer friends and family to an independent agent like me.

Talk to a real person, review the options, get the best solution for your situation. Getting insurance is a good thing. Why not talk to someone who will put your interest first!

There are fully underwritten, simplified medical, and guaranteed plans on the market. If you are healthy, consider the fully underwritten plan. You may have to answer more questions, but in most cases not have to provide blood/urine/or see a nurse.

Simplified issue policies ask specific questions. Many agents just sell one company, Canada Protection Plan. It's a great option but not always the best. Other companies with similar premiums ask different questions, provide higher cash values, and even offer paid up insurance options.

When buying insurance for final expenses, the goal is to have the policy when you die. With built in safety valves, you gain peace of mind.

Guaranteed Plans should be a last resort, not the first option. They cost more and have a deferral period. Viewed as forced savings, they can be a good option.

When's the best time to install a gutter guard?

Yesterday I was greeted with news my contractors' father-in-law passed in his sleep, went to bed and never woke up. The family is in shock. I am a sensitive guy and I feel helpless in that there is nothing I can do other than offer support.

Life happens, death happens, sickness and injuries occur. There is a product that reduces the financial impact of those events. It’s called Life, Disability, or Critical Illness Insurance… and I sell it!

The products, the solutions I offer, would amaze you. Young / Old people of all ages can benefit from the unique benefits insurance plans provide, but the sooner I connect with you, the more options I can offer.

The time to do that is when the sun is shining, and yes, before the leaves fall.

The Insurance industry wants you to rent Term Life insurance. You pay low premiums until rates eventually increase. If healthy, you can replace with new coverage but if not you will pay up to 2.5 times a new policy rate. Most Term policies offer conversion to a permanent plan but at the higher age rate.

Renting Term is ideal to “family” or risk management but not suitable for estate, tax, or final expense planning.

The benefits of addressing permanent needs early are: lower cost, shorter commitments, and greater flexibility.

Having life insurance beyond Term insurance when you are most likely to die provides tax free money directly to your loved ones, by-passing probate and estate fees.

I own paid-up life insurance and my kids have paid-up policies. I am happy to share my experience and explore if owning life insurance is good for you.
