What does FNAFO really support?

We support First Nations farmers, entrepreneurs, and communities who are working to build something real.

That can mean financing for equipment, support with business planning, help understanding cash flow, access to training, or guidance from people who understand agriculture and small business.

You may see programs that support โ€œyouthโ€ entrepreneurs up to age 39. In business, especially agriculture, people are often still in the early stages of building, learning, saving, buying equipment, accessing land, and growing their operations well into adulthood.

This work is about reducing barriers, building skills, supporting local economies, and helping First Nations entrepreneurs create businesses that can last.

Behind every program is a person with a plan, a goal, and the determination to move forward.
Swipe to see some of the great stuff we've been a part of!

Successful farming is not only built in the field, it is built through strong business planning too. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Marketing helps producers decide when and how to sell their products for the best possible return. Farm financial management supports long-term success through record keeping, cash flow planning, farm analysis, and business planning.

At First Nations Agriculture & Finance Ontario, staff work directly with clients to complete year-end workbooks and provide follow-up farm analysis reports to help strengthen operations for the seasons ahead ๐ŸŒพ

Strong farms start with strong planning.

Late Spring Planting Tips๐ŸŒฑโ˜€๏ธ

๐ŸŒฟ Plant warm-weather crops like beans, squash, cucumbers, and basil once frost risk is gone.

๐Ÿ’ง Water deeply to help roots grow strong before summer heat arrives.

๐ŸŒพ Add natural mulch to keep soil cool and reduce watering.

๐ŸŒธ Grow pollinator-friendly flowers like calendula and nasturtium to support bees and beneficial insects.

๐Ÿฅฌ Keep planting quick crops like lettuce and green beans every few weeks for steady harvests.

Ontario gardens are finally waking up, happy planting ๐ŸŒž

Meet Annette Peltier-Flamand ๐ŸŒฑ

Annette is FNAFOโ€™s Food Security Specialist, supporting First Nations communities in developing, establishing, and growing food security and agriculture projects.

Originally from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Annette grew up on a self-sufficient family farm where gardening, livestock, and traditional food practices were part of everyday life. That early experience shaped her passion for agriculture and her commitment to helping others reconnect with land-based living.

After returning to her farming roots later in life, Annette went on to build and lead community agriculture programs, including gardening initiatives, chicken programs, and hands-on workshops in food preservation and self-sufficiency.

Today, she continues that work through FNAFO, helping individuals and communities build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to grow their own food and strengthen local food systems.

If your community is interested in starting or expanding a food security project, Annette is here to support you.
