Last Thursday, The Fund was presented with an exciting pitch for MDA Space from Skye Coffey. Skye highlighted the strong order backlog, technological leadership, geographic expansion, and catalysts like the eventual replacement of the International Space Station. The pitch sparked discussions among The Fund’s industry mentors, with questions about MDA’s involvement in M&A, its relationship with Maxar and SpaceX, and the potential impact of the U.S. president-elect on the company’s growth prospects.

On November 14th, The Fund had a busy evening with two impressive pitches from Samantha and Maxwell. Preceding the pitches, portfolio managers Nathan and Russell presented our monthly update. This update highlighted recent changes to the portfolio, including a reduction of holdings, and reinvestment into our highest conviction ideas.

Following the portfolio update, Samantha presented a buy recommendation for Extendicare focusing on their strategic repositioning, leadership position in the Long-Term Care and Home Care markets, and ability to meet the demands of Canada's growing aging population.

Afterward, Maxwell presented a buy recommendation for goeasy, supported by their organic loan book expansion, development of a general-purpose revolving credit card, and growth potential through international M&A.

Last week, Kirk Edwards and Tiernan MacCharles presented compelling stock pitches to The Fund, sparking valuable discussions and insights with our mentors.

Kirk delivered an in-depth analysis of Neo Performance Materials (NEO) prompting debate on their position within the value chain, share price correlation with rare earth materials prices, and the country's risk considerations.

Tiernan’s pitch on Doman Building Materials Group (DBM) highlighted DBM’s M&A strategy and enhanced operational efficiency. Discussions after the pitch surrounded the implications of the recent president-elect, such as potential tariffs, building regulation changes, and the risk of wildfires to the company’s operations.

Last week, Jack White and Lauren Quinlan presented compelling stock pitches to The Fund, sparking valuable discussions and insights with our mentors.

Jack delivered an in-depth analysis of Badger Infrastructure Solutions, prompting debate on customer diversification, competitive positioning, and key metrics like revenue per truck, fleet age, and capex costs.

Lauren’s pitch on AGI - Ag Growth International highlighted AGI’s expansion into emerging markets and its leadership in digital grain storage optimization technologies. Following her presentation, discussions centered around recurring revenue streams and a recent take-private offer.

For the first part of our series, we’re spotlighting our management team. This year’s cohort is led by portfolio managers Russell Noseworthy and Nathan Young, now in their third and fifth years with The Fund. Both bringing real-world experience in investment management and equity research from internships at Provident 10 and Sage Point Capital Partners. Last year, Russell and Nathan were part of the team that secured first place in the Van Berkom Investment Management Small Cap Case Competition.
