What Makes Up Your Credit Score in Canada?

Your credit score plays a BIG role in getting approved for a mortgage, and getting the best rate. But what actually makes it up?

Here’s the breakdown:

✔️ Payment History (35%)
Do you pay your bills on time? Even one missed payment can have a big impact.

✔️ Credit Utilization (30%)
How much of your available credit are you using?
👉 Try to stay below 30% (lower is even better!)

✔️ Length of Credit History (15%)
The longer you’ve had credit, the better. Keep those older accounts open if you can.

✔️ Credit Mix (10%)
A mix of credit (credit cards, loans, mortgage) shows lenders you can manage different types responsibly.

✔️ New Credit / Inquiries (10%)
Applying for too much credit at once can temporarily lower your score.
