On September 30th, Sunco Insurance Limited will close to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a new statutory day of remembrance recently announced by the Government of Canada. This day fulfills the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call-to-Action #80 to ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Sunco encourages our employees and clients to use this day to reflect on the harm caused by the residential school system, and to honour survivors, their families, and communities, as they seek to heal from that traumatic experience.

Also observed as Orange Shirt Day, the wearing of orange is symbolic of the orange shirt taken away from survivor Phyllis Webstad when she attended a residential school.

We are committed to honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation while continuing to ensure we meet the insurance needs of our customers.
