There's an investment account where the government pays you to save for your kid's education.

You put in a dollar, the government adds up to 30 cents on top (within limits). Before your money grows at all, you get a 30% return on investment. Over the years, that can add up to a maximum of $10,800 in grant money for your childs future.

In a 2025 survey, nearly 7 in 10 Québec parents said they hadn't claimed a single RESP grant.

If saving for your kids education is a priority, there could be real money being left on the table.

I had a great conversation with a mutual fund provider last week about investment fees, thought I'd share.

This chart shows what a 0.5% difference in fees can look like over 30 years. During the accumulation years, it cuts down on your returns. But once you start pulling money out (for retirement, for example) that same 0.5% makes a massive impact on how long your savings last.

Fees aren't inherently bad. Say you've got two funds, one at 1% and one at 1.5%. If that extra 0.5% in fees is consistently buying you better returns on your investment and better downside protection in rough years, it can be worth paying for.

The takeaway isn't "fees are bad." Just know that fees exist for every investment, know what yours are, and know exactly what you're getting for them.

Everyone's heard the term TFSA, but I just wanted to take the time to break down the what and why.

Think of your TFSA like a backpack that the government can't touch because that money has already been taxed. Everything that grows inside the account stays tax-free. When you take it out, it comes out tax-free too. That money stays with you.

Your RRSP works the opposite way. You get a tax deduction when you put money in, but when you pull money out for retirement, it's considered income and gets taxed in the future.

Different accounts have different purposes, but generally the TFSA is the base for investment strategies. The returns you get from your investments are one thing, but knowing which account is right for your goals often makes the biggest impact for my clients.

You don't need $10 000 to begin. You need $50 and a reason to keep going.

The idea that investing is for people who already have money is exactly what keeps people from reaching their financial goals.

The amount isn't the point. The intention is.

With the economy showing signs of slowing down, now might be a good time to review your financial plan.

If you’ve been putting off that conversation, this could be the right moment to have it.

Every year you wait to get your money right costs more than the year before it. Compound interest doesn't send reminders. It just keeps running whether it's for you or against you.

I've never had someone sit down with me and say "wow I really wish I'd waited longer to do this." Not once. It's always the opposite.

42% of Canadians say money is their number one source of stress. Not their health. Not work. Not their relationships. Money. You should be focused on living your life. One conversation could take a lot of that stress off your shoulders.
