For many business owners, the business represents much more than an asset. It's part of their family's legacy.

One of the biggest estate planning challenges is determining how to transfer a business to a family member while preserving its value and minimizing tax implications.

In some situations, life insurance can play a role in a corporate estate transfer strategy, helping create liquidity and support a more tax-efficient transfer of wealth.

As an advisor, I help my clients plan what comes next–for their business and their family’s next generation. If you're thinking about the future of your business, let's connect and explore your options.

Edward Jones, its employees and Edward Jones advisors are not estate planners and cannot provide tax or legal advice. Please consult appropriate tax, legal and insurance professionals regarding your circumstances.

Life insurance can play a powerful role your estate planning, helping you to secure your family’s financial future.

Edward Jones Canada and Gallup just released (2026) national research on financial fulfillment in Canada, here’s what the data shows:

• Only 12% of Canadians are financially fulfilled
• 47% feel financially conflicted, feeling both gratitude and stress about money at
the same time
• 41% are in consistent financial stress

What stands out most: in an analysis controlling for net worth, age, and other factors, professional advisors were the only source of financial guidance with a positive association with financial fulfillment. Guidance from other sources including friends, family, personal internet research, news, social media, and AI had no or negative relationships with fulfillment.

If you're not sure your money is working toward what matters to you, that's worth a conversation. Reach out, I'd love to help you.

Did you know dividends from Canadian companies can qualify for preferential tax treatment through the dividend tax credit depending on your individual circumstances? That's different from foreign dividends, which are generally taxed as ordinary income and may not qualify for the same tax credit treatment. It's an important distinction that can shape your overall tax picture.

As part of our tax planning strategies webinar series, we're breaking down practical insights like these, because smart financial planning matters all year long, not just at tax time. I can work with your tax professional to help make sense of what this means for your specific situation. Let's connect.

U.S. citizen living in Canada? If you’re considering opening a Tax-Free Savings Account, keep in mind: it may not be tax-free for you.

While TFSAs offer tax-free growth for Canadian residents, U.S. tax law does not recognize them as tax-advantaged accounts. Earnings may be taxable on your U.S. return, and depending on structure, some TFSAs can be classified as foreign trusts, triggering complex annual reporting requirements and potential penalties for non-compliance.

What appears straightforward in Canada becomes complicated when cross-border tax rules apply. Account selection decisions require understanding both jurisdictions' treatment before opening.

I work alongside your qualified tax or legal professional to help you evaluate savings account options that work within both tax systems.

A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) can be an effective way to prepare for future education costs, but it’s important to understand your options if plans change.

RESP rules outline how contributions, earnings and government incentives are treated, and with the right approach, it’s often possible to preserve a significant portion of the savings while managing any tax implications.

If you’d like guidance on how to navigate RESP decisions and protect the value of your contributions, I’m here to help.

The burden of proof shifts back to AI skeptics. NVIDIA's earnings reinforced that AI demand and spending remain robust, with customer demand continuing to outpace supply and little evidence that the AI investment cycle is nearing an end.

A new school year is just around the corner, and for many families that means it's time to start drawing from an RESP.

Julie Petrera, our Director of Financial Planning at Edward Jones Canada, shared some helpful perspective in The Canadian Press on the mistakes to avoid — like taking from the wrong portion of the account first, or leaving too much invested in equities too close to withdrawal time.

We work with media to share insights like these because the families we serve are asking these same questions every day. By contributing to credible publications, we help bring timely, trustworthy guidance to clients and families across Canada — not just in our own communities, but wherever these conversations are happening.

If education planning is on your mind, reach out. We're here to help.

As the school year approaches, families across the country are getting ready to tap into their registered education savings plans.
