Please note that our office will be closed on September 30th to respect and acknowledge the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
September 30th is observed as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. This day honours the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. It is a time for Canadians to reflect on the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, which is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
This day is also known as Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of residential schools and to promote the concept that Every Child Matters. On this day, we are encouraged to wear orange to honour the Survivors of residential schools.
Here are some meaningful ways we at Many Nations participate in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:
1. Orange Shirt – we wear our Orange Shirt to honor the survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never returned home
2. Cultural Events - we attend local Indigenous cultural events happening in our area
3. Listen/Watch/View – we experience Indigenous podcasts, movies, documentaries, music or art that focus on Indigenous history and reconciliation efforts
4. Support Indigenous Businesses - we promote and support Indigenous-owned businesses
These activities not only honour the day but also foster a deeper understanding and commitment to reconciliation.
