A "no" is often just a detour, not a dead end.

It means the timing, the approach, or the specific door wasn't the right match for you at that exact moment. Have you ever had someone say "not right now" or "no thank you"? I have learned first hand that these things come back around - when you least expect them.

The trick is to being open to seeing the new opportunity, even if it wasn't the original one you wanted.

Are you sad Summer is over or ready for Fall? I'm a late Fall person (or Spring). I'm ready for sweater weather, warm drinks and cozy nights.

It's the time of year where I think about cleaning up books and finishing projects before the busy tax season starts up again.

Heads Up!! Stat holiday alert! All provinces and those in federal jurisdictions! Monday, Sept 7 - who here knows why we observe Labour Day?

If your people work Mondays, this is generally a day off. If you're still requiring them to work (helloooo retail!), they will receive stat pay PLUS overtime for any hours worked.

Tuesday Tips

Electronic receipts are just as good (even better) than paper! Snap a photo, upload it to Google Drive or a system such as Hubdoc. Electronic receipts don't fade 👌🏼

This early habit will save you so much stress later when you're reconciling your bank account or getting asked to provide them to the CRA.

Tuesday Tips!

Every month, save the money you will owe for taxes. It's the easiest thing to fret about when the time comes to pay it. I know how easy it is to receive money from customers and immediately spend it on tools, supplies, stock etc.

Save yourself the hassle by saving your taxes owing. Sales tax, payroll, and a percentage for income or corporate tax. It'll save you headaches later and set you up for success.

Running a business takes all of your energy and focus. Mentally you hardly have time for anything else. The first five years are definitely the most challenging and it takes a while to feel like you don't have to be in, at or working on the business. Here's some tips I've learned over the last 3 years:

⚡ If you don't schedule, it doesn't happen. Schedule your down time and stick to it.
⚡ Set boundaries with clients and other commitments early. Learn how to set them, get comfortable saying nope. I promise no one will leave you for it.
⚡ Put your phone away, turn off notifications, take off your smart watch. This one's the biggest for me!
⚡ Surround yourself with business owners who get it, ask for help and advice. Offload some of the work.
