🏡🎉 Cheers to Chris Heidt — 21 Years and a Happy Retirement! 🍻

After 21 years of helping individuals and families secure mortgages, open doors to new homes and build their futures, Chris Heidt of Tekamar Mortgages Ltd. is officially RETIRED!

He's been a Chamber member since the day he began his career!

Over the past two decades, Chris has built lasting relationships, guided clients through some of life's biggest milestones and been a valued member of our Armstrong Spallumcheen business community.

While we'll miss Chris in the mortgage business, we're excited for what comes next — travel, friends, craft beers and absolutely NO more deadlines or closing dates! ✈️🍻

And for those wondering, Chris is leaving his clients in great hands! The wonderful team at Tekamar Mortgages Ltd. Amie, Tom and Rich, will continue looking after clients, with Amie Den Biesen as their primary contact.

More Canadians are choosing variable over fixed right now. 📊

Variable-rate mortgages now make up 36% of all outstanding mortgages in Canada (as of August), up from a low of 18% back in 2021. Meanwhile, the classic 5-year fixed has dropped to just 20%, the lowest share we've seen in a decade.

Why the shift? Many borrowers are betting prime rate will stay at 4.45%, and want the flexibility that comes with a variable rate.

But variable isn't right for everyone. Before you choose it, ask yourself:

▪️Can I handle my payment going up if rates move the other way?
▪️Am I paying attention to what's predicted for the Bank of Canada's next moves, and the bigger picture of the Canadian economy?
▪️What's my real risk tolerance, not just today, but over the next few years?

A good mortgage isn't about chasing the lowest rate. It's about picking the one that fits your life and your comfort level.
