What to do after a property claim?
1. The first thing is to mitigate further loss by cleaning up and stopping further damage from occurring. For example this means patching the hole in the roof or stopping further water from entering the dwelling. Do what is necessary, whether you would have insurance or not- taking pictures a long the way.
2. Call us and let us help you put in a claim. We will also discuss how this claim may affect your policy.
3. Get direction from your assigned claims adjuster- is this an insured loss? If so, what can you do to get the claims process moving and can I call a clean up or restoration company to get the clean up started?
The goal of insurance is that it is there to help get you back where you were "at the time of loss"- no better off and no worse off.
We understand that claims can be frustrating and overwhelming and that nobody has the extra time in their schedule to do the additional work to deal with a claim- getting quotes, organizing contractors, and detailing items damaged, but unfortunately this is the process.
