Leading a team is the closest thing to parenting most of us will ever do at work.
Both ask you to show up before someone is ready to tell you what's wrong. Both ask you to give attention nobody has explicitly requested. Both reward people who notice early and never the people who only respond when things break.
The financial side of my work is the part clients see. The team side is the part nobody sees. It's where most of the real decisions get made about whether someone stays in this industry or leaves it quietly within two years.
The most valuable thing I have to give anyone on my team is the same thing I have to give my own kids. Time. Attention. The feeling of being known.
