❄️🛞Don't wait for the snow to fall to install your winter tires if you have them! Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures make road conditions challenging for drivers. Preparing for changing weather early and adjusting your driving habits for the road conditions can prevent avoidable stress and lower your collision risk.

Slow down, scan the road shoulder to shoulder, and notice wildlife crossing signs. It's wildlife matting season which means drivers are more likely to encounter moose and deer populations crossing the roads to chase love. ❤️🦌

Be alert! There's moose on the loose! 👀🫎 Dawn and dusk are the peak times for wildlife collisions. Visibility is reduced when the sun is on the horizon because the glare makes it difficult to see wildlife approaching the road.

Look and look again! We've seen a rise in collisions with pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooters, and just how vulnerable they are to being hit by a vehicle.

👀Constantly scan the road ahead
🚸When approaching any intersection, yield the right of way to anyone crossing the street.
⬅️➡️Look in both directions for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists before turning.

Share the road so every road user is safe. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏻

A shark on a Saskatchewan grid road? Probably not 🙈😆

But a deer, a moose or other wildlife?

Definitely.

The roads we drive every day are often the ones we stop really seeing. They become familiar, our minds wander, and it’s easy to forget how quickly something can appear.

So keep your eyes up, scan the roadsides and expect the unexpected.

Be alert. Every drive. Every road ❤️

No matter where you're cheering from, plan your safe ride home before kick-off.

And if you are the safe ride home, pay attention to pedestrians and cyclists sharing the road.

Take care out there. 🪽

Fields are busy and so are Saskatchewan roads. 🌾🚜

As farmers work to bring in the harvest, watch for slow-moving farm equipment travelling on highways and grid roads. Give yourself extra time, stay focused and share the road safely.

Oh deer! Be alert and watch out for wildlife. 🦌

The October Traffic Safety Spotlight reminds drivers to keep their eyes on the road to avoid collisions with wildlife. Drivers are more likely to encounter moose and deer, especially on highways and rural roads, during fall months when it's mating season.

Recent collisions involving e-scooters are a reminder that everyone has a role to play in keeping our roads safe.

If you're planning to use an e-scooter, first, make sure they're permitted in your community. Municipal bylaws determine where e-scooters can be used, and some communities may prohibit them altogether.

If e-scooters are allowed where you live, provincial rules require riders to:

✅ Be at least 16 years old,
✅ Wear an approved helmet,
✅ Ride sober,
✅ Only drive on roads with 50 km/h or less speed limits (your municipality may lower this limit or prohibit operation on certain roads),
✅ Use an e-scooter that meets equipment standards,
✅ Drive alone (no passengers),
✅ Not tow anything.

⚠️Additional local rules may also apply

A few minutes of preparation can help prevent a collision and keep everyone sharing the road safely.
