On behalf of FHQ Ventures, we are incredibly proud of Star Blanket Cree Nation on the historic return of the buffalo to their homelands. 🦬

“This morning, 15 buffalo — 13 females and 2 males — made their journey home to Star Blanket Cree Nation from Carstairs. Community members then gathered together to witness and celebrate this powerful moment of restoration, reconnection, and pride.

Following their arrival, families, Elders, leaders, and guests came together at White Calf Gym for dignitary speeches, fellowship, and supper to honour the significance of this historic day.

The return of the buffalo represents so much more than bringing animals back to the land — it is the restoration of culture, teachings, identity, and the sacred relationship between our Nations and the buffalo. Their return symbolizes strength, resilience, healing, and hope for future generations.

We honour all those whose dedication, leadership, and vision helped make this moment possible.

Today, we celebrate restoration, strength, heritage, and the proud future of Star Blanket Cree Nation. ❤️💛🤍🖤” - File Hills Qu’appelle Tribal Council

Tomorrow, May 5, marks Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+).

This is a day to honour and remember the lives of those who are missing and those who have been taken too soon, and to stand alongside the families and communities who continue to carry this loss. It is also a time to recognize the ongoing and disproportionate violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people.

Across Treaty Four and beyond, walks and gatherings will be taking place to bring people together in remembrance, solidarity, and support.

We encourage community members to attend a walk or gathering in their area, stand with families, and show support in a good way.

The community is invited to participate in the Red Dress Day Walk in Fort Qu’Appelle tomorrow morning:

Fort Qu’Appelle, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
• 9:00 AM – Pipe Ceremony (Bert Fox Community High School Culture Room)
• 10:00 AM – Gathering at the football field
• 10:30 AM – Walk to File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council
• 11:00 AM – Guest speakers
• 12:00 PM – Community barbecue (Treaty 4 Governance Centre)

For those in Regina, we invite you to attend the gathering being held by Regina Treaty/Status Indian Services:
The Gathering Place (4001 3rd Ave N), 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Gather together to hear guest speakers, participate in a beading activity, and share a meal. All community members are welcome to attend.

Many other walks and gatherings are being held throughout our communities, and we encourage you to attend where you can to honour and remember our relatives gone too soon.
