Last week, my colleague and I from Scotiabank had the pleasure of meeting with clients of Rooted Connections, who are newcomers and new immigrants to Canada. During the session, we delivered a presentation covering essential topics such as banking in Canada, building credit, saving strategies, preparing for home ownership, and, most importantly, starting off with the right advice.

In addition the participants learned our journey as bankers and the skills needed to become strong candidates in the financial industry.

We were thrilled by the active participation and engagement from the group and are grateful for the opportunity to be a resource for you.

I had the pleasure of presenting to a group from RIWC Regina Immigrant Women Centre YES STAIY program. The topic was, how to start saving and investing? With the current economy, historical high inflation & rising interest, it is already difficult for most of us to stay on track financially. One can only imagine, how difficult it is for a new immigrant who is still going through the settling process in a new land! I loved the energy in the room, curious questions from the group and eagerness to contribute to their future as well as Canadian economy.

Key to a successful savings strategy-

-Understand your own budget
-Plan your short term & Long term goals
-Start with any amount you are comfortable
-be consistent with your savings

I came to Canada 16 years ago as an international student. My journey was not easy to find new friends, employment, learning new language, copping with Canadian education system and most importantly staying away from my family. I am a Canadian citizen now and proudly call this land as my new home. I understand the hard journey of most immigrants in Canada, who are trying every day to create a career and support their family here. I am happy to contribute my time and provide mentorship to the clients of Regina Immigrant Women Centre (RIWC). Love to see all of you grow with your dreams and contribute back to the community🙂.
