High Tide Games is Powell River's only dedicated local gaming store and play space. We offer a fine selection of modern board games and accessories as well as enough table space to comfortably seat 16 people (8 during these pandemic times). We maintain a friendly, inclusive s
pace for all players and keep student friendly hours. The store is entirely volunteer run, as well! Whether you're into traditionally-styled board games like Ticket-to-Ride, Settlers of Catan, or Pandemic, card games like Magic: the Gathering, table-top wargaming like Warhammer 40K, or roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons, we've got you covered. Most of our products are at or below MSRP so you can get your game on without breaking the bank. If you want something we don’t have, we’re usually able to order it in. All of our prices include tax. Because no one likes handling change. We run multiple weekly events including M:tG tournaments, D&D campaigns, and open-table gaming where you can try board games you've probably never heard of. High Tide Games also offers a membership program, with benefits including product discounts. Membership confers a slew of benefits, including further product discounts, free entry to certain events, reduced entry costs to other events, and access to promotional and hard-to-get games and accessories. For more information regarding membership, see 'Membership' below.
*** A Note On Covid-19 ***
High Tide Games strives to maintain a high level of pandemic precautions while still allowing for an enjoyable gaming experience. Our a volunteers wear face masks during retail interactions, our gaming surfaces are disinfected on a regular basis, and table top 'sneeze-shields' are available for use. A maximum of 6 players are allowed in the store during retail hours to allow space for shoppers, and up to 8 players are allowed for after-hours events. Most gaming events are scheduled for after-hours. We recommend wearing face masks during games and provide hand-sanitizer. If you're feeling under the weather for any reason, we ask that you don't enter the store. Table top gaming is an inherently social activity and we want you and everyone else to remain healthy and safe.
*** Magic: the Gathering ***
High Tide Games runs weekly FNM events with rotating formats. There’s also a fancy table for drop-in Commander sessions. More information to come.
*** D&D ***
Interested in Dungeons & Dragons? Check out our sister page:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/HTG.DND. After-hours campaigns are run Tuesday and Wednesdays, depending on DM availability. We’re always looking for new DMs and players – and not just for D&D.
*** Table-Top Wargaming ***
High Tide Games is currently building its miniature wargaming play space. If you need a place to play that isn’t your basement or kitchen table, we might just be the place for you. Note: Table sitting fees apply to non-members.
*** Board Game Library ***
We’ve begun building our board game library. Between the hours of 1 and 4 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays you can stop in and play one of the games in our growing collection. Games rotate on a weekly basis, accommodate on average between 1 and 3 players (plus the person running it), and average between 30 to 90 min to play. Drop in sessions are on a first-come, first-serve basis. We’re not taking reservations at this time.
*** Membership ***
High Tide Games was initially founded to provide a play space for Powell River’s Magic: the Gathering community. It’s run entirely by volunteers and funded to a large extent by membership dues. These due go directly to covering monthly overhead, allowing us to provide products at low prices. There are three membership ‘tiers’: T1, T2, and T3. Each tier has a different fees structure and provides a different range of benefits. For more information regarding membership fees and benefits, please see the ‘Membership Benefits Matrix’.
*** Membership – Council ***
All T3 members have the option of joining High Tide Games’ membership council. This council organizes special events and decides on how to spend extra revenue generated by membership dues and retail sales. Love High Tide Games and want to see more of something? Why not become a T3 member and join the council?
