Often times, when I try to offer someone my service to review their policy, the common answer I get is "meron na ako" or "wala akong pera."

But for those clients whose policy I get to review, they would often realize that either the coverage is not enough, expensive, or the type of policy was not appropriate for their needs.

Recently, with the pandemic and sometimes with age and illnesses, I've quoted several people whose premiums have gone up or they became hard to insure... in this business, regret always comes too late. And that regret comes with a hefty cost than "wala akong pera."

Listening to another advisor's advice will not cost you anything. Anyway, it is always up to you to decide.

So a friend called me yesterday because she had some Critical Illness insurance questions. She was devastated to learn that her husband who came here to Canada a year ago, was diagnosed with brain cancer. He didn't have symptoms or had no idea at all. When he collapsed, they thought he was having a stroke. They have a toddler and her husband just got surgery few weeks ago. My friend had to work and her husband had to take care of their child. It is good though that they got a CI insurance. will help them with their rent and other bills once she takes a leave to take care of her husband and child.

A lot of people take this insurance for granted because they view it as bills. But this is your protection to a more cataclysmic financial event. Explore those with Returns of Premiums if you think you won't ever go through Critical illnesses. It would be like prepraring for that "just in case" but also saving if you are very fortunate to not ever be critically ill.

Insurance such as Critical illness insurance or Disability insurance can cover bills not covered by your MSP or extended benefits such as your rent, utilities or lost income. Insurances are not bills, they're there to protect you from financial catastrophe.
