If a debt collector contacts you about a debt you're not sure is accurate, you have the legal right to request verification of that debt in writing.

Once you do:
✅ The collector must provide proof that the debt is valid
✅ They must typically stop collection efforts until they do
✅ You have time to review and respond appropriately

You don't have to take a collector's word for it. You have the right to proof.
