The Community Futures Program was established in 1984 to assist rural communities in the development of strategies for dealing with a changing economic environment. The program is based on the philosophy that local decision-making and local development are the most effective means for communities to shape their future. We believe that provi

ding small businesses with resources leads to job creation and economic growth. Over the past 25 years, B.C. has become a small business economy. Community Futures has played a leading role in that growth by providing financing and small business training. An evaluation of the Community Futures program during the period 2003 to 2008 was completed by the Federal Government using Business Information Numbers and Revenue Canada Data. The results showed that businesses assisted by Community Futures:
Increased employment by 18% compared with businesses not assisted at 10%
Increased revenue by 26% compared with 20% for unassisted businesses. Locally Community Futures has provided:

$26 Million in loan funds to 484 businesses including:
52 Youth owned businesses
28 businesses owned by Entrepreneurs with Disabilities
4 First Nations owned businesses
7 Social Enterprises
Training and start up coaching to 1015 businesses
Diversification of the local economy:

Oh what a night! We celebrated local women entrepreneurs at our event. Thank you to everyone who attended. We made connections, laughed and learned. Our panel featured Janine from Paradox Events, Julie from OgoFloat and Dolly from SilverSky Cradle & Casket. They shared openly what it means to be a woman in business and the things they have learned over the years.

Thank you to our sponsor and to our partners Chamber of Commerce and Penticton Women in Business for your collaboration and to The HUB on Martin for the excellent food and outstanding service.

Reaching new customers outside of B.C. requires more than great products. Agrifood businesses need a marketing strategy that accounts for new buyers, pricing expectations, a competitive landscape, and the cost of interprovincial or international promotions.
Join Export Navigator and guest speakers for a practical session on building a marketing strategy for markets beyond B.C. We’ll discuss how to approach interprovincial and international markets, including how to adapt your value proposition, set effective pricing, and choose promotion channels that make sense for your business stage. You’ll also learn about funding and advisory support available to help offset marketing and expansion costs.
Whether you’re planning your first expansion outside B.C. or refining your approach in new markets, this session will provide clear direction and resources on how to develop an effective export marketing strategy and manage expansion costs.

Posting this survey on behalf of our client:
At the Good Karma Supply Company we are working to improve community health and safety by making kindness visible through The Good Karma Bag project.

The Good Karma Bag is more than just a shopping bag. It’s a community kindness movement — one that helps people feel less overwhelmed by the negativity in the world and reminds us that small actions do matter.

The Good Karma branded bags are intended to be used for groceries and then reused to share kindness: dropping off donations at the curb or to a local charity, gifting items to friends or neighbours, or participating in local drives to support our community.

In a world where bad news is everywhere, this bag is meant to make kindness visible — a gentle reminder that we’re not alone, that goodness is still out there and it matters.

Your feedback will help us shape the design, message, and availability of the Good Karma Bag. This short survey will take less than 5 minutes. Thank you for taking the time to assist in the development of this project.

Manufacturers - The Okanagan Manufacturer's Network is a new regional initiative created to strengthen our manufacturing sector by fostering connection, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. Its goal is to support local manufacturers and improve the overall competitiveness and resilience of the sector across the valley.

To celebrate its official launch, OKMN is hosting a Kickoff Mixer at Unit Electrical in Okanagan Falls on February 11th. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/okmn-kick-off-mixer-okanagan-falls-tickets-1976985829836

These relaxed, free events are a chance for manufacturers to connect with peers, learn about the network, and help shape what comes next. These mixers are designed specifically for manufacturers and include refreshments, networking, and a spotlight on local innovation.
