Today was bitter sweet as we opened up again after too many days away from our community.

We embraced both grief and joy as we came together today. Many of us talked about our friend who died just over a month ago and many of us hugged with grateful hearts that we were back together.

Thank you for your care and support in these days.

We’re so grateful for the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation 💚

Thanks to their Resilient Communities Fund grant, we’ve been able to grow and strengthen our Community Support Program in meaningful ways—expanding access to advocacy, referrals, accompaniment, and wellness groups for more people in our community than ever before.

Through two years of support in hiring a Community Support Worker, OTF has enabled us to move from ad hoc assistance to consistent, relationship-based care, ensuring individuals have the support that they need. It’s also created space for deeper connection, with many participants finding a sense of belonging through our wellness groups.

Thank you for helping us build a stronger, more connected community.

Tonight our community walked in our annual fundraiser 💙

It’s good to be together as we grieve this past week.

Being together is a first step in our healing.

We are grieving the tragic incident that occurred at Capital City Mission the morning of February 25th. A vehicle struck multiple individuals at the entrance of our building on Rideau Street. We have since learned that one community member has died as a result of their injuries. Several others were also injured.

Our hearts are with the family and loved ones of the individual who passed away, those who are injured, and the driver of the vehicle. We are holding them in our prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Capital City Mission serves up to 250 individuals daily, offering meals and a welcoming community space for those experiencing poverty and isolation. Incidents like this deeply affect our entire community — staff, volunteers, and the people we serve.

Each of the people injured today was a beloved member of the Capital City Mission community. Our focus right now is supporting our community as we await notice about when we may re-enter our building.

We will be coordinating with likeminded agencies in Lowertown to ensure that our community is able to find support in the coming days as we work to re-open our space. Thank you to those agencies that have already reached out with offers of support.

We are grateful to the first responders who arrived quickly and provided immediate assistance. Their professionalism and care were evident from the outset.

We are cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate the circumstances surrounding this event. At this time, we will defer to police to provide further details. We ask that privacy be respected for those impacted.
