Last week, we had the chance to attend the IBAA Conference, and it was an incredible experience. With the ongoing changes and challenges shaping the insurance industry, it was inspiring to hear from so many market leaders who shared valuable tools, insights, and resources to help us continue adapting and growing.

Home & rental insurance edition (aka “don’t surprise your insurer”) 🏠😅
Insurance claims getting denied is stressful… especially when it’s your house on the line.
Here’s the light but VERY real version:
If it’s your primary home 🏡
Tell them:
• If you run a business from home
• If you’ve renovated
• If the roof is older than your favorite playlist
• If it’s sometimes unoccupied
If it’s a rental property 🏘️
Definitely tell them:
• It’s tenant-occupied (not owner-occupied)
• Short-term rental vs long-term lease
• If it’s vacant between tenants
• Any major upgrades or changes
That “small detail” like:
“It’s only on Airbnb sometimes…”
or
“It was empty for a few months…”
👀 Yeah… that’s not small in insurance language.
Premiums are calculated based on risk.
More risk = different cover + different premium.
Wrong info = awkward claim conversation later. 😬
Moral of the story:
Be honest. Disclose everything.
Overshare with your broker so you don’t undershare at claim time.
Future You (and your property) will thank you. 🏠✨
