Quick financial check in:

If something changed in your life this year, your financial plan probably needs to change too.

New job.
New house.
New baby.
New debt.
New goals.
New relationship status.

Your plan should fit your life now, not the version of your life from three years ago.

A review can be simple. Sometimes one conversation is enough to spot what needs attention.

This weekend reminded me of something that applies just as much to financial planning as it does to sport.

On paper, our team probably was not the one most people would have picked to finish in the top three.

But paper does not measure everything.

It does not measure chemistry.

It does not measure the teammate who picks someone up after a bad inning.

It does not measure the person who keeps everyone calm when momentum starts building.

It does not measure a group of people deciding that they are going to play for each other.

That was our X factor.

We finished third, losing by one run in the game that would have sent us to the final.

And the biggest lesson was that we did not get there because of one huge moment or one standout person.

We got there through a lot of small wins.

Winning an inning.
Moving a runner.
Making the next play.
Doing the little things consistently.

Financial progress works much the same way.

It is rarely one deposit, one investment, one debt payment, or one brilliant decision that changes your financial future.

It is the compounding effect of small decisions made consistently over time.

Sometimes the full goal feels too big.

So do not focus on the whole game.

Focus on the next inning.

The next deposit.

The next debt payment.

The next financial decision that moves you one base closer.

Small wins compound.

And sometimes the person who does the little things consistently ends up much further ahead than anyone expected on paper.

There is no single “type” of person who needs financial advice.

This week alone, I have worked with people at completely different ages, stages, and starting points.

Some are dealing with debt. Some are reviewing their mortgage. Some already have insurance and investments but are unsure whether they still make sense. Some simply need a second opinion because the person they were working with dropped the ball.

The carousel mentions life insurance, but protecting yourself can also mean protecting your health and your ability to earn an income. We are often quick to insure our possessions while forgetting about the person paying for them.

Sometimes we keep what is already in place. Sometimes we adjust it. Sometimes something genuinely needs to change.

You do not need to be wealthy, organized, or financially confident before speaking with an advisor. You just need somewhere to start.

If you know someone who could use a practical, judgment free conversation about their finances, send them my way. 💙

Sometimes the answer isn’t “no.” Sometimes it’s just “not here.”

I went to 11 different companies looking for a solution for this family.

Ten said not now. One said yes.

Is it the perfect long term solution? No.

But it gives this family **$400,000 in life and critical illness coverage today** while we wait until standard issue insurance becomes an option.

That matters.

If you or someone you know has been told they can’t qualify, it may be worth getting another opinion.

Sometimes it just takes someone willing to keep looking.

Remember when $5 got you a coffee and a snack?

Now you tap your card, look at the total, and wonder if you accidentally bought shares in the café.

Toonie Tuesday? Basically folklore.

That’s inflation. Your money is still money, it just buys less of everything.

Where are you feeling it the most right now?

08/18/2026

Sometimes financial planning isn’t about spending more money. It’s about making the money you’re already spending work harder.

I’m working on two cases this week where we’re replacing older Term 10 policies and rebuilding the protection around what these families actually need today.

The really cool part?

By restructuring things, we’re able to add critical illness coverage, disability coverage, $100,000 of permanent insurance, AND monthly investing while keeping the overall monthly commitment around what they were already spending.

Same monthly budget.
Completely different plan.

This is why reviews matter. What worked 5 or 10 years ago may not be the best fit anymore.

When was the last time someone actually looked at the full picture with you?
