Saving is an important part of building financial security but saving alone may not be enough to build long-term wealth.

Savings can provide stability, liquidity, and a financial cushion for emergencies or short-term goals. Investing, on the other hand, gives your money the opportunity to grow over time through compounding and potential market returns.

The goal isn’t to choose between saving and investing. It’s to find the right balance based on your goals, time horizon, financial situation, and comfort with risk.

Build a strong foundation for today while giving your money an opportunity to work toward tomorrow.

A thoughtful financial plan can help you decide how much to keep accessible, how much to invest, and how the two can work together toward your long-term goals.

How Apple and consumer-facing tech fit in the enterprise-driven AI narrative
Apple’s move to introduce iPhone leasing in the US at $17.99 per month for two years is a fascinating case of technology giants shifting their business models. By allowing users to upgrade or return devices and emphasizing AI-enhanced personal computing, Apple is clearly leaning into a recurring revenue approach—transforming hardware into a service.

For many of my clients—techpreneurs, IT founders, and medical professionals navigating complex financial decisions—this signals more than just a product update. It’s a glimpse into how consumer-facing tech is adapting to an enterprise-driven AI world, and how these trends might influence personal wealth strategies or the way we plan for technology adoption costs in portfolios. As someone who’s spent years advising innovators on transition and tax strategies, I always keep an eye on how shifts like these in the tech landscape could impact long-term financial planning and wealth management. After all, understanding the intersection of AI, service-based models, and personal finance is key to making informed decisions in a rapidly evolving market.

Hard Truths to Face Before Retirement
Retirement realities in Canada are shifting: the average Canadian now believes $1.7 million is needed for a comfortable retirement, up from $1.54 million just a year ago. Yet, over a third of Canadians don’t feel confident they’ll reach that mark. Through my work guiding founders, medical professionals, and high net worth families, I’ve seen how the dream of endless travel in retirement can lose its luster—too much time on the road often disrupts sleep, diet, and even the joy of familiar routines. Many find balance by blending travel with meaningful time at home. Others ease into retirement more gradually, weaving in consulting, part-time work, or seasonal roles rather than making a sudden leap.

Establishing new routines—whether through classes, music, volunteering, or fitness—often supports a sense of purpose, while relying on a single pastime can leave retirement feeling flat. Drawing down on savings can be daunting, and public pensions alone may not fill the gap. That’s why thoughtful planning across CPP, RRSP, RRIF, and TFSA accounts—paired with a realistic trial budget—can create a smoother, more confident transition into this new phase. In my practice, helping clients navigate these complexities is at the core of building sustainable income and well-being after work.
