In 2008, I received my Honours Business Administrative degree from the University of Toronto. In the years following, I experienced valuable experience in the insurance and finance industries. I, now, bring that experience to Billiyard Insurance Group. Here, I am a registered insurance broker and life insurance agent. Educating the public about insurance is something about which I feel strongly a

s I would wish everyone I deal with to make wise and informed decisions about their insurance needs. I especially look forward to helping educate families and entrepreneurs on all matters dealing with insurance. I am also fluent in English, Ukrainian and Polish. My personal interests include being active, continuing my education as I complete my CIP, and participating in many community events. I enjoy spending time with my husband Raymond, my daughter Arianna, my son Alexander along with my extended family and dear friends.

Inflation is quite the buzzword right now, so what is it and how does it affect your finances?

While the concept of inflation itself may seem simple, its effects can be much more complex. Inflation is an increase in the price of goods and services over time. The rate of inflation measures the change of inflation throughout the years. While annual inflation rates normally hover around 2%, in 2021 the inflation rate in Canada was 3.4%.

In the pandemic, we have seen the concept of inflation illustrated first-hand as people changed where and how they spent money. Higher spending (and demand) on housing and groceries, for example, has caused prices to increase. Supply chain issues causing low inventory has also led to inflated costs.

Canada has announced that they will increase interest rates this year to curb inflation, but it's likely that you're already feeling its effects with higher grocery and fuel costs. With all these changes, you need a plan and a budget to adjust and find creative solutions to make your money work for you!

Have you started your gift shopping yet? The holiday season is upon us and it’s easy for it to become financially stressful, so I’ve created some strategies to help your budget over the holidays!

🎁 Make a list of people you want to buy gifts for. The size of your list can help you decide the dollar amount for gifts to stay within your means. It’s okay to trim the list and do something homemade to save money.

🎁 Shop around, use discounts, sales and coupons. Compare prices online before you buy. Look for coupons in magazines/newspapers, and promotional emails. I recommend Honey for online coupons.

🎁 Get creative with gifts. Remember it’s the thought that counts, and homemade gifts can often be even more meaningful. Try your hand at a art/crafts, write a song/book, or give β€˜coupons’ offering your time or services to help others.

🎁 Leave your credit card at home. Using cash will help limit impulse purchases and keep your spending on track.

🎁 Keep track of your bills to avoid falling behind. Put money aside for big purchases and reign in your spending to fit your budget.

Above all, remember that everyone’s capacity for gift-giving is different. You can still show how much someone means to you without breaking the bank.

Tire blowouts mostly occur between May and October when the roads are hot. Underinflated tires, excessively worn treads, or an overloaded vehicle could put you at risk for a tire blowout. As a driver you should know how to handle your vehicle in case it happens. Save these tips that will help you maintain control of your vehicle in this type of emergency.

πŸ‘‚ You’ll hear it – a loud boom or bang, a whooshing sound as the air escapes the tire, and a flapping sound of the deflated tire hitting the road.

πŸ‘‹ You’ll feel it – your vehicle will slow down and pull strongly to the side of the tire that burst.

What should you do?

πŸ‘‰ Keep a firm grip on the steering wheel.
πŸ‘‰ Do not slam on the brakes.
πŸ‘‰ Let your car slow down gradually by taking your foot off of the gas pedal.
πŸ‘‰ Pull to the side of the road once you have slowed to a safe speed.
πŸ‘‰ Activate your hazard lights.

After you are in a safe place, you may consider changing your tire or contacting roadside assistance.

Who is excited to start pool season? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ This time of year is great for enjoying the water, get some exercise and spending family time poolside. As a pool owner, you know that it’s also a big responsibility, with maintenance and safety requirements to protect your family. Be sure to follow these steps regularly:

🏊 Check for leaks in your liner
🏊 Ensure pool chemicals have not expired and store them safely with restricted access
🏊 Look into using a professional service to open/close your pool
🏊 Vacuum your pool regularly during the season
🏊 Empty your skimmer so that it doesn’t end up blocked
🏊 Set up child-proof fences and self-closing gates that meet municipal by-law requirements
🏊 Research and install pool alarms for fences, water levels and young children

If you have recently installed a pool, be sure to contact your home insurance broker or company. Adding a pool changes the value of your home and will impact the coverage you need.

Which do you think is better? Buying a new car or buying a used car?

This is an age-old dilemma you probably face every time you’re purchasing a car. Your decision is dependent on so many factors unique to you, but here are some things to consider in the process.

NEW CAR ADVANTAGES
βœ”οΈ Brand new models with customizable features
βœ”οΈ No existing damage or wear and fewer repair in the near future
βœ”οΈ Better warranty options

NEW CAR DISADVANTAGES
❌ Faster depreciation
❌ Higher initial cost and bigger payments
❌ Potentially higher insurance rates

USED CAR ADVANTAGES
βœ”οΈ Lower prices and monthly payments
βœ”οΈ Potentially lower insurance premiums
βœ”οΈ Slower depreciation rate

USED CAR DISADVANTAGES
❌ Might not have all the features you want
❌ Potential uncertainty about repairs or damage
❌ Limited or no warranty
❌ Repairs will come sooner

As you shop for your next vehicle, research and get quotes. Be sure to check consumer reviews. Book a test drive before you buy. Try to negotiate prices with the salesperson.

Whether you decide to go with a used car or new car, always factor in the cost of car insurance into your budget. Visit my website to get started www.thebig.ca/Natalie

When do you need to add someone to your car insurance policy? The general rule-of-thumb is that if the person drives your car regularly or lives in your household, they should be named as a driver on your auto insurance policy. If you’re ever in doubt, give me a call to be sure. Here are some circumstances where you might be unsure.

🚘 If your teen driver just received their learner’s permit, they do not need to be added to your policy just yet. It’s only when they begin driving on their own (ON-G2, AB-Class 5-GDL), that they need to be listed.

🚘 In a co-parenting situation, where your teen driver spends half the time with you and drives your vehicle, they should be listed on your policy. Often insurers charge half the premium given the child’s living arrangement.

🚘 Adult children that do not have their own vehicle and insurance, must be listed on your policy in order to use your vehicle.

🚘 A parent living in your home should be listed on your policy unless they have their own car and policy.

🚘 Friends or neighbours who use the car occasionally do not need to be listed. Just remember that whenever you lend your car, you are lending your insurance too. If they get into an accident, it will impact your insurance.

What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day today?

Today we celebrate our beautiful home, planet earth. Take a moment to learn these energy saving tips that you can practice to help protect the environment and possibly save a little money in the process.

🌎 Save energy on heating and cooling. Be patient with your thermostat or invest in a smart thermostat that will learn your heating and cooling patterns and automatically adjust the temperature.

🌍 Conserve water. Take a shorter shower, turn off the water while brushing your teeth and shaving. Fix that leaky faucet. Turn down your water heater’s thermostat or insulate it.

🌏 Doing laundry? Wash your clothes in cold water and only wash when you have a full load. Hang clothes to dry instead of using your dryer.

🌎 Use natural light as much as possible. Consider motion-sensor lights for outdoor ones. Also switch your lights to LED, halogen incandescent or compact fluorescent.

🌍 For electronics, use sleep mode and turn devices off when they’re not being used.

🌏 Invest in energy-efficient appliances where you can. Simple things like letting food cool down before putting it in the fridge or not overstuffing your fridge can save energy too.

Try incorporating one of these tips into your regular habits to help protect our beautiful planet.
