If you know someone who fought on D Day, you know they rarely shared their experiences of what happened that day. There are many stories that will never be told. Here is one of those stories. If you're interested, check out Pegasus Bridge; why it was important and how they managed to capture this essential target.

I was with a group of approximately 25 teachers who visited WWI and WWII sites in Normandy through the auspices of the Juno Beach Centre. Everywhere we went, we were treated like royalty just because we were Canadians. The people there are so grateful for the effort and sacrifices made by Canadian forces. We should also.

On June 6, 1944, over 14,000 Canadians stormed Juno Beach during D-Day, and pushed farther inland than almost any Allied force that day. 🇨🇦

They landed under machine gun fire, artillery, mines, and chaos.
Many never made it off the beach.
But the advance never stopped.

Village by village. Street by street.
Canadian troops fought through Normandy with relentless determination, earning respect from allies and enemies alike.

Juno Beach wasn’t just another landing zone.
It became one of the defining moments in Canadian military history.

Their courage helped change the course of World War II — and proved Canada could stand on its own. 🇨🇦

Bridgewater Brewery in Welland, was the site of a recent District 14 luncheon. Prior to dining, the group enjoyed several games where they had to guess the number of items in several different containers. As the games continued, whispers began spreading around the table, due to the fact Monique was winning the majority of the games and her guesses were either exact or within a few numbers of the answer. Comments began with how talented and smart Monique was but soon led to more insidious comments such as:
• Did she have an insight or inside information regarding these games?
• Was the fix in?
• Did she have partners or collaborators in her endeavours?
• Did she purposely give close answers to avoid suspicion?
• Was there a darker or more sinister reason behind her precise answers?
• Recently, it was also suggested that Monique was actually reading Susana’s mind. Once I started thinking of this possibility, I keep seeing Monique with a scarf wrapped around her head like a clairvoyant from an old time movie.
With all these possibilities, will we ever know the truth?
As the comments began to increasingly denigrate, members began to scrutinize the locale for possible explanations. Sitting at a nearby table were two young men In black suits. Were they acolytes to a dark, sinister, evil force, or simply two funeral directors enjoying their lunch?
The Bridgewater is near the Main Street Bridge, also known as BRIDGE 13! The number 13 is widely considered a mystical or sacred number that is often considered unlucky. 80% to 90% of high-rise hotels and buildings in North America skip the 13th-floor label on elevators, yet Welland proudly named its main bridge, Bridge 13. Local lore includes numerous tales of ghosts in the area of Bridge 13. Could these spectres be working in collaboration with Monique or did they subtlety invade her subconcious mind to influence her answers? We may never know the what truly happened with Monique, but keep watching our posts for further developments.
The company was fantastic and very engaging. The food at Bridgewater was flavourful, delicious and plentiful, with numerous members left happily with takeout boxes laden with tasty delights.
Entente District 14 Niagara just missed out on being District 13, and I am beginning to think that we are envious of . LOL!

On April 29th, members of District 14 came together for a meaningful and informative Caregiver’s Workshop, organized by Francesca, and featuring special guest presenter Emily from the Ontario Caregiver Association.

Emily shared a wealth of valuable resources, including programs and services designed to support individuals in their caregiving roles. Through thoughtful and strategic questions, she also encouraged participants to reflect on their own needs—an important reminder as they continue to carry out the essential and often demanding responsibilities of caregiving.

This session provided not only practical tools, but also a space for reflection, connection, and support among members.
