As we’ve seen over the past month, heavy rainfall can quickly lead to flooded basements, water-damaged businesses, sewer backups, roof leaks and water entering through foundations. These events can damage flooring, walls, personal belongings, equipment and inventory, and may even force a business to close temporarily.

Not every type of water damage is automatically covered. Now is a good time to review your policy and ask about sewer-backup, overland-water and business-interruption coverage.

Before you decline the rental company's coverage, take a moment to check with your insurance agent.

A quick conversation could save you thousands if something goes wrong.

Ask:
✅ Do I have OPCF 27 (Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Automobiles)?
✅ What is my rental vehicle coverage limit?
✅ Does my coverage apply to the type of vehicle I'm renting?
✅ Are there any exclusions I should know about (such as luxury vehicles, trucks, or international rentals)?

Not every Ontario auto policy includes rental vehicle coverage, and coverage can vary from one policy to another. Make sure you understand your protection before you decline the rental company's coverage.
