Keep portable devices on the tray table if you're charging them while on a plane.

Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane.

If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or colour, or if you see smoke. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire.

To honour the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, we wear our orange shirts today, gather to raise a flag, read the land acknowledgement, and take a moment of silence to remember survivors of the residential schools, as well as the children never returned home.

We acknowledge the lasting systemic harm caused by residential schools. By learning more about Indigenous traditions, we can better honour this land and help rebuild relationships between cultures.

Sarah Klatt is an award-winning underwriter who celebrated her 5-year anniversary with Heartland earlier this month.

Starting in a co-op position, Sarah first joined Heartland in our Finance department. Once here, learning more about the insurance industry piqued her interest in underwriting. In just a few short years, Sarah completed her CIP and CRM designations, held a role on our Personal Lines team, and is now a Commercial Auto Underwriter.

Her hard work has earned her Canadian Broker Network’s 2025 Underwriter of the Year award, as well as Insurance Business Canada’s 2026 Rising Star award for best young insurance professionals under 35.

We’re honoured to have Sarah on our team, and wish her a happy 5 years with Heartland!
