Money isn’t really about the money — it’s about what it means.
For some of us, especially immigrants, money is security: rent paid, bills covered, a little cushion ‘just in case.’ For others, it’s freedom: a coffee without guilt, sending a care package home, or finally booking that flight to see family.
Arguments about spending or saving? Usually, it’s not about the $50 dinner — it’s about what money represents.
The trick is asking each other: ‘What does money mean to you?’
Once you understand that, decisions get easier, tension softens, and it even becomes a little fun.
And if you’ve ever tried explaining to your parents why you spent money on coffee instead of sending it home… congratulations, you’re fluent in immigrant guilt.” 😅
