🪙 2011 Parks Canada – Boreal Forest Toonie

Released as part of the Parks Canada Centennial series, this commemorative Toonie celebrates Canada’s vast boreal forest, one of the largest forest ecosystems on Earth.

• Issued in 2011 to mark the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada
• Features a stylized boreal forest scene
• Honours Canada’s commitment to conservation and natural heritage
• Part of the popular Parks Canada commemorative coin series

Interesting fact 👀

Canada’s boreal forest stretches across the country from Yukon to Newfoundland and Labrador, covering nearly 60% of Canada’s land area. It is home to countless species of wildlife, including moose, wolves, black bears, lynx, and millions of migratory birds.

The boreal forest also plays a vital role in helping regulate the Earth’s climate by storing enormous amounts of carbon.

Because of its beautiful design and environmental significance, the 2011 Boreal Forest Toonie has become a favourite among nature lovers and Canadian coin collectors alike.

🤯 $239.95 for ONE ounce of silver?!

When I first saw the Royal Canadian Mint’s new Royal Military College 150th Anniversary coin, that was my first reaction.

After all…

🪙 A 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf costs a fraction of that price.
🪙 Both contain 1 ounce of 99.99% pure silver.
🪙 Both are struck by the Royal Canadian Mint.

So what exactly are you paying for? 👀

Is it:
🎖️ The history?
🎨 The design?
📦 The presentation?
📜 The limited mintage of only 6,500?
🇨🇦 The connection to one of Canada’s most important institutions?

Or is it simply overpriced silver? 😳

In this video, I break down the numbers and compare it directly to a Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin to see whether this new release is actually worth the cost.

👉 What do YOU think?

💰 Worth $239.95?
OR
❌ Too expensive for a 1 oz silver coin?

💬 Let me know in the comments. I’m curious where collectors stand on this one.

🪙 1999 Nunavut 2-Dollar Coin (Toonie)

Issued to celebrate the creation of Nunavut, Canada’s newest territory, this special Toonie commemorates a historic moment in Canadian history.

• First circulation coin to feature Nunavut
• Released in 1999, the year Nunavut officially became a territory
• Designed by Inuit artist Germaine Arnaktauyok
• Features a traditional Inuit drum dancer on the reverse

Interesting fact 👀

Nunavut officially became Canada’s third territory on April 1, 1999, after separating from the Northwest Territories. The creation of Nunavut was the largest land claim settlement in Canadian history.

The drum dancer featured on the coin represents Inuit culture, tradition, and storytelling, making this one of Canada’s most meaningful commemorative circulation coins.

Because of its historical significance and unique design, the 1999 Nunavut Toonie remains a favourite among Canadian collectors.

Toonie Spotlight

🪙 2008 Quebec City 400th Anniversary Toonie

Issued to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Quebec City, this special commemorative toonie honors one of North America’s oldest European settlements and Canada’s rich French heritage.

• Released in 2008
• Commemorates the 400th anniversary of Quebec City (1608–2008)

🥈 Silver Spotlight #12

🪙 2023 Austrian Philharmonic – 1 oz Fine Silver

The Austrian Silver Philharmonic is one of the world’s most popular bullion coins and has been produced by the Austrian Mint since 2008.

• Year: 2023
• Country: Austria 🇦🇹
• Composition: 1 Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver
• Face Value: €1.50 Euro
• Weight: 31.1 grams
• Diameter: 37 mm

The design celebrates Vienna’s world-famous Philharmonic Orchestra. The reverse features an array of orchestral instruments including a cello, violins, harp, bassoon, and French horn. The obverse showcases the magnificent pipe organ found in Vienna’s Golden Hall (Musikverein).

Interesting fact 👀

Unlike many modern bullion coins that feature national symbols or wildlife, the Austrian Philharmonic is one of the few major bullion coins dedicated entirely to music. It has become a favorite among both silver stackers and music lovers around the world.

Containing a full ounce of pure silver, its value rises and falls with the silver market, while its internationally recognized design makes it one of the most traded silver bullion coins globally.

🎼 A beautiful blend of precious metal, art, and music.

👉 If you could choose just one bullion coin to stack, would it be the Maple Leaf, Silver Eagle, Britannia, or Philharmonic?
