You may qualify for the Canada Caregiver Credit — a non-refundable federal tax credit that can reduce your taxes.

Did you support a spouse, parent, or child due to an impairment in 2025?
The Canada Caregiver Credit may be available if they depended on you for basic needs.
(CRA rules apply)
3️⃣
There is no minimum number of months required for the Canada Caregiver Credit.
The impairment must exist during the tax year and cause dependency.
(Confirmed by CRA)
4️⃣
Medical forms are not always required upfront, but CRA can request a signed medical statement.
Always keep documentation.

Paid only part of your medical bill because of group insurance?
👉 You can claim ONLY the portion you paid out-of-pocket (not reimbursed).
❌ The insurance-paid portion is NOT deductible.

Example:
$1,000 bill – insurance paid $750 → $250 may qualify as medical expenses.

🦷 Dental work done abroad = medical expense?
✔️ YES, if it qualifies under CRA medical expenses rules.
✔️ Must be for eligible dental services.
✔️ Paid to a licensed dentist (outside Canada is allowed).
✔️ You need receipts showing name, date, service, amount, and provider.
❌ Travel, hotel, or cosmetic-only treatments are not eligible.

🏡 Home Accessibility Tax Credit (CRA) If you’re 65+ or eligible for the Disability Tax Credit, the CRA lets you claim up to $20,000 in qualifying home renovation expenses each year. That gives you 15% back (up to $3,000).

Eligible renovations include things like: • ramps
• walk-in showers
• grab bars
• widened doors
• other permanent accessibility changes

Must be your principal residence in Canada and owned by you or the qualifying individual.
