Edward Jones- Financial Advisor: Alex Gunn Personalized financial planning & investing for individuals, families, & business owners

I’ve always loved bringing people together; through sports, volunteering, or community events. Growing up, my family talked openly about money, and I saw how those honest conversations built confidence and clarity. That’s what inspired me to become a Financial Advisor: to give others a safe, approachable space to feel the same way.

Our colleague Julie Petrera, Director of Financial Planning at Edward Jones Canada, recently spoke with The Canadian Press about the RESP withdrawal mistakes families make as the school year approaches.

Why does this matter to us? Because RESPs are one of the most important tools Canadian families use to invest in their children's education, and the decisions around withdrawals can have a real impact on taxes, growth, and whether the money is there when it's needed.

We share our insights with credible media because we want to meet families where they are — with topical, practical guidance they can trust. Articles like this one help us extend our reach beyond our offices and into the homes of families across Canada who are navigating these moments for the first time.

Have a look, and if you're working through an RESP withdrawal, let's talk.

As the school year approaches, families across the country are getting ready to tap into their registered education savings plans.

A new school year is just around the corner, and for many families that means it's time to start drawing from an RESP.

Julie Petrera, our Director of Financial Planning at Edward Jones Canada, shared some helpful perspective in The Canadian Press on the mistakes to avoid — like taking from the wrong portion of the account first, or leaving too much invested in equities too close to withdrawal time.

We work with media to share insights like these because the families we serve are asking these same questions every day. By contributing to credible publications, we help bring timely, trustworthy guidance to clients and families across Canada — not just in our own communities, but wherever these conversations are happening.

If education planning is on your mind, reach out. We're here to help.

“Financial Advisor” can mean a lot of different things.

With many new connections here, I wanted to clearly share what I actually do and who I help.

What I do:
• Start by reviewing your current investments and financial plan (if you have one)
• Identify what’s working & what's not
• Clarify your short‑ and long‑term goals
• Build a plan that fits your life, including investment strategy, insurance analysis, and coordination with lawyers and accountants so nothing is unaccounted for
• Routinely review & adjust as life changes

Who I work with:
• Professionals with growing income and increasingly complex finances
• Athletes and entertainment professionals in performance‑driven careers
• Individuals going through major life changes and looking for clarity
• People who want to retire, but aren’t sure if, when, or how

If you already have an advisor, consider this your reminder to book a review and make sure everything still aligns.

If you don’t and want to explore what working with an advisor looks like, I’d be happy to connect.

I really enjoyed the Referrals to Revenue Lead Tribes event on Tuesday!!

So many great conversations; we spoke about referrals, relationships, and doing business the personal way. Grateful to be part of a network focused on trust and mutual growth.

Big thanks for Linda Walters, the founder of lead tribes for continuously creating spaces for us to connect with amazing people!!

One of the most interesting parts about becoming a financial advisor?

Coming to the realization that most people aren’t struggling because they’re “bad with money.”

They’re struggling because they were never taught them how to think about it... at least not in a way that connects money to real life.

So a lot of people walk around with this quiet stress:
Am I behind?
Am I doing enough?
Why does everyone else seem to get this except me?

The truth is, so many smart, successful people are asking the exact same things & so a lot of what I do has very little to do with numbers.

It’s helping people turn that quiet overwhelm into understanding.

Money feels a lot less overwhelming when someone finally explains it in a way that makes sense.

If you know me, you know I love analogies, soooo here we go.

Imagine driving somewhere you’ve never been before with no GPS.
Sure... you might still get there… eventually.
But you’ll probably take a few wrong turns, miss an easier route, spend more on gas, and waste a lot more time than you needed to.

Managing money without a plan can feel the same way.
Wouldn’t you want to know your money is actually moving you toward the life you want?
And have a plan that can adjust when life inevitably changes?

That’s the difference between just investing and true planning.

One is choosing a car. The other is knowing where you’re going and how to adjust when there’s detours along the way.

52% of DIY investors who use a robo advice platform intend to enlist a human financial advisor during the next year.

Does this surprise you?

At first, money can feel really simple: Pick an account. Choose investments. Automate contributions.

Then life happens:
A partner.
A mortgage.
Kids.
Multiple workplace plans.
Tax questions.
An inheritance.
Insurance decisions.
A business.
Estate considerations.
An aging parent.

That’s usually when people realize they’re not just looking for better investments.
They’re looking for a plan, something to put all the pieces together.

Because the real questions become:
• RRSP or TFSA right now?
• How much home can I afford and still retire?
• Am I protected if something happens?
• Are the people I love protected if something happens?
• Do my old accounts still make sense?
• What does income actually look like later on?

It's no longer just picking a product, its planning a life.

👉 Feel free to save this post or share it with someone who’s juggling the same questions, lets get the conversation going.

Ever built furniture without the instructions?

Everything looks familiar.
You’re moving fast.
Then you’re left holding an extra piece.

That’s personal finance for a lot of people.
Individual decisions can seem pretty straightforward:
• Open the account
• Pick the fund
• Save consistently

But the problem usually isn’t the pieces.
It’s how they fit together.

Because when you have a “manual,” your financial life can be assembled properly and can feel safe & sturdy. And when you don’t, you usually don’t realize it until something starts to wobble.
