Focused on growing your business? As a business owner myself, I get it. It takes all of our attention and one wrong step can be devastating, especially today.

Serving your clients and growing the business is the top priority. But operating without a safety net isn’t being frugal, it’s gambling.

Many business owners lack the proper protection to ensure that if something happens their business, and their family is taken care of.

The world is moving faster than ever and your insurance may not have kept up with you, your business, and the world around you.

Now is a great time to connect to review your situation. My team and I are here to help. From one business owner to another, don’t wait until it’s too late. A short conversation may be the best investment you could ever make.

When was the last time you reviewed your business insurance?

Many business owners I speak with haven’t done a proper review in the past 5 years, some even longer.

A lot has happened in the world in the last 5 years. A lot has happened in your world as well? Maybe, maybe not.

In most cases your insurance has likely not kept pace with your world and the new reality around you.

• Your business may have grown over the past 5 years

• The cost to replace equipment may have increased substantially

• With the rise of AI you may be more exposed than ever to cyber attacks that could shutdown your business or expose you to lawsuits

And so much more.

Many business owners I speak to have are exposed more than they realize. Let’s connect today because no one knows what tomorrow holds.

Most people are surprised how different insurance products can be. Did you know that some mortgage life insurance products:

• Decrease coverage over time without decreasing price
• Will be cancelled if you decide to move your mortgage in the future
• Pay benefits to the bank, not to your loved ones
• Have the right to refuse to pay the benefits based on health conditions you had when you applied the insurance

Not all products work that way. Don’t take chances with your insurance.

This past weekend I had the chance to spend time at the Peel Breakthrough T1D Walk. The weather may have been cool and damp, but the energy was incredible — and together, the community raised nearly $50,000 for research.

Type 1 is an autoimmune disease with no known cause or cure. Nearly 1 in 10 people live with diabetes, and it remains the 7th leading cause of death. Our family has lived both sides of those statistics — yet despite how common diabetes is, we don’t talk about it nearly enough.

Managing diabetes can cost families upwards of $15,000 a year out of pocket for medication, supplies, and lifestyle adjustments. It can be financially overwhelming. Many people are surprised to learn that there are insurance solutions that provide meaningful financial support after a diagnosis — for diabetes and for other serious illnesses like cancer or multiple sclerosis. And if nothing happens, many plans return your premiums.

We can’t prevent every difficult moment in life. But we can choose how prepared we are.

Which is better? It depends on the situation.

In minus 30 weather with a foot of snow outside, the boots would like be the best choice. Going for a run in the summer? The running shows may win the day.

Why am I asking this question?

I get asked a lot, which is better: Permanent life insurance or Term insurance? Many experts will say “buy term and invest the difference”. And that may be the correct answer for some. However, without knowing your personal situation: your goals, your needs, your preferences, and on and on then how can someone tell you which is better for your situation.

What are your goals?
• Cover the mortgage and your loss of income?
• Efficiently manage the tax liability of your incorporated business?
• Ensure there is cash readily available to cover your funeral expenses?
• Peace of mind

Each goal may require a different solution.

A free pair of running shoes may sound like a great deal but in the dead of winter with a foot of snow outside, I still would be willing to buy a pair of boots. A “good deal” that doesn’t meet your needs is more costly in the long run.

If someone is giving you advice, whether directly or as a talking head, without getting to know you and your specific situation, please seek out alternative advice before committing to a path.

Lately, many retirees who planned to downsize are now asking the same question: “Should I wait?”

Home prices are softer. the headlines say “not the right time.” But waiting has a cost too — financially and personally.

Here’s what the real trade offs look like:

• Sell now: You might get less than the 2022 peak… but you unlock equity you can invest, diversify, or use to simplify your lifestyle. The money isn’t “dead.” It starts working for you again. In many cases the financial difference, if any, is not as great as people think.

• Wait it out: Maybe prices recover — but how long will that take? And what’s the cost of another year (or three) of maintenance, stairs, stress, or supporting adult children from a home that no longer fits your life?

• Market timing: Trying to “hit the bottom” sounds smart… but almost no one gets it right. Meanwhile, life keeps moving. Health changes. Energy changes. Priorities change.

Some retirees can wait. Others can’t — or don’t want to. There’s no one size fits all answer.

Your situation is unique. Your timeline is personal. Your plan should be too.

If you’re stuck between waiting and moving, the best place to start isn’t the market — it’s clarity on what’s important to you.

This Sunday May 24th I will be at the Breakthrough T1D Walk in Mississauga as a sponsor in support of .

Diabetes doesn't receive a lot of attention in the media but nearly 1 in 10 Canadians lives with diabetes. Diabetes comes at a cost in many ways:

💲 According to , the costs associated with diabetes (for medical supplies, etc) can range from $1,500 - $18,000/year. This can have a significant impact on the financial health of any family.

⚕️ Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in Canada. The mortality rate for Canadians with diabetes is roughly double that of the general population. It increases the odds heart attack, stroke, kidney disease and more. Last year, I lost one of my brothers due to complications related to his diabetic condition, so I have seen first hand the impact diabetes has.

This often overlooked illness is a very real part of the lives of many Canadians. If it impacts you, someone you know, or just enjoy being outdoors then please come join us for the walk this Sunday.
