🇨🇦 Today I celebrate 40 years in Canada! 🇨🇦

It feels like yesterday that I arrived at Mirabel Airport in Quebec with one suitcase, a $20 bill in my pocket, and a dream.

I was only 22 years old, travelling alone on my very first flight. The journey itself was unforgettable — our small plane developed mechanical problems and had to make an emergency landing in Gander, Newfoundland. 😳 I also remember sitting in the “non-smoking” section while people were smoking right behind me. Different times indeed! 😁

Like many immigrants, my Canadian journey began with small jobs and big determination. I needed to repay the family friends who had helped my parents with what was, at the time, a very large amount of money for a ticket to Canada. I was scared of the unknown, but hopeful.

I had one aunt and three cousins in Hamilton who welcomed me and gave me a place to start. After a few months, I moved to Toronto — and the rest, as they say, is history.

Today, I am blessed with a wonderful partner, Mike, his children, and our two adorable grandchildren. My sister also made Canada her home, and now my niece, her husband, and our beautiful grandniece are here as well. Having my closest family around me is a gift I never take for granted.

Over the last 40 years, I have built a career, worked hard, overcome challenges, and achieved more than I ever imagined possible. I have had the privilege of helping thousands of people as an insurance agent and providing employment opportunities for eight amazing team members.

Canada gave me an opportunity. I embraced it, worked hard, and built a life beyond my dreams.

Today, I am filled with gratitude — for this country, for the people who helped me along the way, for my family, my friends, my clients, and for every opportunity that came my way.
