The oldest known dental procedure was just discovered: A Neandertal tooth drilled with a stone tool 59,000 years ago.
According to an article written by Tom Metcalfe published by Science News on May 13, 2026, the recently discovered molar is now considered the oldest known evidence of dentistry, pushing the history of dental care back another 40,000 years.
