**Our roots are in Ontario. Our home is in BC. Our WHY has never changed. 🤍**

Before Port Credit Mortgages was a business name, Port Credit was our home.

It was where we were building our life, growing our family, making memories, and becoming part of a community we loved.

When I started Port Credit Mortgages, I wanted the name to represent something bigger than mortgages. I wanted it to reflect the feeling of belonging, the connections we make, and the importance of having a place to call home.

Because to us, home has always meant so much more than an address.

Over the years, life has taken our family on a new adventure, from the shores of Lake Ontario to the mountains and lakes of British Columbia.

We've built new friendships, discovered new communities, and created so many memories along the way. But our Ontario roots will always be a part of who we are.

And through all those changes, one thing has remained the same. **Our WHY.**

We believe homeownership is about more than finding the right mortgage rate. It's about building financial security, creating opportunities for your family, and making decisions that support the life you want to live.

Having experienced our own homeownership journey, and the changes that come with moving across the country, I understand just how personal those decisions can be.

Today, what began as a local mortgage business in Port Credit has grown into a team of 25 mortgage agents within BRX Mortgage, helping families across Ontario and British Columbia.

I'm incredibly proud of that growth, but even more proud that the heart of our business hasn't changed.

We still believe in real relationships, honest conversations, supporting our communities, and helping people feel confident about their financial future.

Looking through these family photos reminds me just how much life can change, and how special it is to have a place to call home through every chapter.

It all starts with an Americano.
Now, you might think you’re just having a coffee. A simple, innocent, beautifully extracted double shot of espresso with a little hot water.
But you’re not.
You’re making a decision.
And decisions, my friends, have consequences.
Because one Americano turns into two. Two turns into a conversation. A conversation turns into a relationship. A relationship turns into a discussion about real estate. And before you know it, someone is asking about mortgage rates, amortizations, qualifying income, and whether a three-year fixed is really the right move.
And just like that, a $5 coffee has turned into a $750,000 mortgage.
Coincidence? I think not.
You see, caffeine is a gateway drug.
A gateway to conversations. A gateway to connections. A gateway to opportunity. A gateway to sitting across from someone you met for a casual coffee three years ago who is now refinancing their home, buying an investment property, and referring their entire extended family to you.
All because of an Americano.
But here’s where things get interesting.
Nobody talks about the compound effect of caffeine.
One cup today. One connection tomorrow. One mortgage next month. Twenty years later, you’ve built an entire business on espresso, consistency, and the occasional questionable decision to order a fourth coffee before noon.
And THAT is the real return on investment.
People ask me, “Dustan, what’s the secret to building a successful mortgage business?”
And I tell them...
Have you tried coffee?
Not a latte. Not a caramel macchiato with seventeen pumps of syrup.
An Americano.
Because caffeine is a gateway drug.
And apparently, the gateway leads directly to mortgages.
Anyway, where was I?
Right. Coffee.
DISCLAIMER: Dustan actually drinks matcha. Which, when you really think about it, only further supports the argument that caffeine is a gateway drug. Different delivery system. Same destination. Mortgages.

Big announcement from BRX Mortgage. 🎃

We’ve officially figured out how to DOUBLE our executive team without adding a dollar to payroll. 😂

For the SECOND Halloween in a row, Emily has decided to dress up as yours truly, and my wife Mere has returned as our President, Dustan Woodhouse.

I’ve always believed in scaling a business, but apparently we’re scaling the leadership team now too.

I have to respect the commitment. Most people wear a Halloween costume once. These two are building a franchise.

At this point, Dustan and I might have to start charging licensing fees.

I gave myself a green B— and it hit different. After Broker Talks and MPC I realized being a ‘good’ leader takes more than intention; it takes honest work.

I’m sharing what I learned, the tough truths I had to face, and how I’m showing up differently for my team. There are 70 days left in 2026 - lets see if I can make them blue for my team. **Cheers to a weekend of learning, laughter, and really terrible karaoke. 🎤☕**

Friday started at 3:10 AM, driving past the deer in my neighbourhood on my way to the airport. Erin and I were Calgary-bound for a weekend of learning, networking, and connecting at MPC.

And what a weekend it was.

From incredible Broker Talks sessions and lender events to sharing business ideas on hotel couches, reconnecting with Ontario friends, exploring Calgary, beautiful dinners, endless coffee, and five of us singing karaoke (very, VERY badly), my cup is full.

I came home with new friendships, stronger lender relationships, a notebook full of ideas, and so much gratitude for this industry and the wonderful people in it.

**I love these weekends, but I also love coming home.** By Monday, I was beyond ready to hug my kiddos. 💚
