When monthly cash flow feels tight, the answer is not always to keep cutting from an already stretched household budget. Credit cards, lines of credit, vehicle loans, and other higher-interest debt can use more of the monthly income than many people realize.
In some situations, restructuring debt through the mortgage may create breathing room and make the monthly budget more manageable. That does not make it an automatic solution. The costs, available equity, mortgage penalty, new payment, and risk of rebuilding the debt all need to be considered.
A cash flow reset works best when there is a clear plan behind it.
