"Acceptance doesn't mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there's got to be a way through it." — Michael J. Fox
Edmonton-born, and one of the clearest thinkers on resilience alive — because he's had to be.
What makes this line so strong is the distinction it draws. Resignation says: bad things happen, nothing to be done. Acceptance says something completely different: bad things happen, so let's be honest about that and build the way through in advance. One posture is passive. The other is quietly the most active stance a person can take.
Most of adult life rewards the second posture. You accept that markets dip, so you diversify. You accept that careers turn, so you keep learning. You accept that roofs leak, drivers collide, and basements flood — so the way through exists before the water does.
That's really all sound coverage is: acceptance, converted into a plan. Not dwelling on what could go wrong. Just refusing to pretend it can't, and then getting on with your life — lighter for it.
A steady thought for a slow Monday. Enjoy the last long weekend of summer.
