The Bank of Canada today increased its target for the overnight rate to 2½%, with the Bank Rate at 2¾% and the deposit rate at 2½%.

Bank of Canada raises key interest rate

The Bank of Canada has hiked its key interest rate to 0.5 percent, for the first time since October 2018.

As a result of this decision, variable-rate mortgages interest rates will go up by 0.25% as variable-rate mortgages are affected by prime rate; And, the prime rate depends on the Bank of Canada interest rate.

Bank of Canada key interest rate remains at 0.25 per cent The central bank has done the expected, keeping its benchmark overnight interest rate where it has been since March 2020.
