Ethereum uses the proof of work consensus mechanism, which means anyone who wants to add a block to the chain must solve a complex puzzle which requires a lot of computing power. When the puzzle is solved and node has used its computational resources by trial and error , a block is added to the chain, this process is called mining and the miner is awarded with ETH, the new blocks added are broadcasted to the nodes in the network where these nodes validate the transaction and update the state of blockchain.

Stellar runs a network of decentralized servers with a distributed ledger which is updates amongst the nodes every 2 to 5 seconds which is similar to most of the decentralized payment technologies but the consensus protocol is different from bitcoin as the SCP doesn't rely on entire network but uses FBA (Federates Byzantine Agreement)algorithm for faster processing of transactions. In this algorithms each node chooses a set of "trustworthy" nodes to validate the transactions. As only a few modes are approving the transactions, this is making Stellar transactions very fast and it is said it processes 1000 transactions per second.

There are certain features in Polygon that distinguish it from Ethereum.
