Spring weather can be unpredictable, here’s what your home insurance may (and may not) cover:
Basement flooding: Covered only if you have overland water or sewer backup coverage added to your policy.
Water entering through foundation cracks: Typically, not covered. It’s considered gradual damage or maintenance-related.
Tree falls on your home during a storm: Usually covered under storm/wind damage.
Tree falls with no damage (just cleanup): Often not covered, unless it damages an insured structure.
Roof leak after winter ice buildup (ice damming): May be covered, but insurers can deny if it’s linked to poor maintenance.
Damage from pests (ants, rodents, etc.): Typically, not covered, considered preventable.
Coverage depends on the cause of loss and the details in your policy. Not sure where you stand? Let’s review your coverage and make sure there are no surprises this spring.
