Today, September 30th, is Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day 🧡 On this day we honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of of the reconciliation process. It is only with acknowledgment, truth, listening, and learning of the history of inequities and abuse against Indigenous Peoples, which will allow us ensure it never happens again.
Today, we ask that you wear orange to continue raising awareness and promote the concept of “Every Child Matters.” We ask that everyone takes a moment of silence to honour those lost, and take the time to learn & reflect upon the past and understand how we can move forward together, as a nation, through the ongoing process of reconciliation.
