Proposed Projects
Kiangazi Foundation has implemented various projects in all but one of these Wards, (Viwandani), which is located in Naivasha town. Our approach for 2012 is to do more in Wards that are remote and where we have not done much in the past. Water is still a major challenge in most of Naivasha, as is access to education, particularly high school education. High schools are few and far between, and there is a great need to establish more of these. We would therefore like to focus on these two project areas. Towards this end, we propose to consider the listed schools below for water tanks. These schools have been selected because they are located in what are considered remote, “hardship areas,” that they are often times forgotten or ignored in government programs. The project cost of $1250 for a water tanks includes; the purchase of heavy duty plastic tanks of 10,000 liters capacity, sand, cement, building stones for construction of a concrete platform for the tank, labor and transportation costs for the building materials.

Education
The planting of schools in the rural areas is usually a community initiative, with a cost sharing approach between the government and the community. Communities determine the need for a school in their area, they identify and purchase the land, and proceed put up some physical facilities, all through community mobilization of resources. The government then comes in to register and support the school through funding additional classrooms and paying teachers. The frequent episodes of famine in the past decade has, however, compromised the ability of these farming communities to support such initiatives on an ongoing or needs basis. Children in these communities therefore find themselves travelling long distances to the nearest school, usually on foot. Financial support from donors in this sector is therefore critical to fill this funding gap.

The selection of these projects has been done in consultation with local leaders, who have stated the need and requested support. I have undertaken to support them where possible.
In implementing most or all of these projects, we will also fulfill our own stated objective of promoting regional balance and equity among and within the electoral wards of Naivasha.
