When ai fact checked this, it seems the CMHC is studying our home equity for the purposes of taxation.
This isn’t the spirit of the original CMHC whose founders said in the 50’s that homeownership should be for ALL Canadians.

The quote is real. “We need to call out the glorification of homeownership for the regressive canard that it is” comes straight from a CMHC-published transcript of Siddall’s own 2019 speech, not a hostile paraphrase.
The appointment is real and current. Build Canada Homes’ inaugural board chair Evan Siddall was CEO of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. from late 2013 to 2021, where he helped to develop the Liberals’ national housing strategy. Siddall was most recently vice-chair at BMO Capital Markets and his experience includes heading up Alberta’s AIMCo pension fund manager and stints at Goldman Sachs and Irving Oil.  He formerly served as special adviser to Prime Minister Mark Carney when he was Governor of the BoC.  This was announced around August 10, 2026. One correction: he’s the board chair, not CEO — Ana Bailão has been Build Canada Homes’ CEO since September 2025.

On Monday, Mark Carney made him the first chair of Build Canada Homes.
Siddall ran CMHC from 2013 to 2021 and helped write the Liberals' national housing strategy. Before that he spent years as special adviser to Carney at the Bank of Canada. Since then, BMO Capital Markets, Alberta's AIMCo, Goldman Sachs, Irving Oil.
Now the part that should worry anyone with a mortgage.
While he ran CMHC, the agency put $250,000 into research on taxing the equity in your home. Siddall emailed the researchers, "I like the idea. Very worthwhile."
When Blacklock's Reporter made it public, he tweeted that CMHC was "NOT spending $250,000 to consider any tax on housing." The study was quietly dropped.
So the man who thinks you overvalue owning a home, and who once paid to study taxing the one you own, is now in charge of building them.
You cannot parody these people anymore.
