Only half of Canadians aged 45 and older intend to use a Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) to save for retirement, according to the 2021 Fidelity Retirement Report.

Why your clients should use a TFSA to save for retirement
There are several ways you can put a TFSA to work. But it’s when looking longer-term toward retirement that the tax-free benefits of TFSAs really stack up.

Tax benefits of withdrawals:

TFSAs withdrawals are tax free.
You can make a withdrawal from your TFSA at any time, for any reason.
Withdrawals can be made without affecting your eligibility for federal income-tested benefits and credits.
For example, in retirement, Old Age Security (OAS) can be clawed back once you hit a certain income threshold, but TFSA withdrawals don’t affect your OAS eligibility.
Withdrawals can be recontributed in the following year.
